Globalstar, a provider of advanced telecommunications infrastructure and technology, has announced the construction of new gateway infrastructure at its existing ground station within OTE S.A.’s commercial teleport in Nemea, Greece. The development is part of a wider expansion of Globalstar’s global ground network to support its third-generation C-3 mobile satellite system.
Through its wholly owned subsidiary, Globalstar Europe SAS, the company first partnered with OTE in 2020, resulting in the installation of three six-meter tracking antennas and associated infrastructure at the Nemea site. Building on that foundation, Globalstar has now commenced construction of three additional tracking antennas and supporting infrastructure, significantly enhancing the capabilities of its C-3 constellation.
The new antennas in Greece are a key element of a global rollout that will see the addition of up to 90 tracking antennas across about 35 gateways worldwide. This expansion represents a major investment in capacity and functionality, ensuring the C-3 network can deliver advanced satellite services to hundreds of millions of users worldwide.
Lykourgos Antonopoulos, Chief Commercial Officer Business Segment, OTE Group, said: “We are proud to be Globalstar’s partner of choice for such a significant project, which validates Greece’s strategic role in global satellite connectivity. OTE, a member of the Telekom Group, with its state-of-the-art facilities, robust fiber connectivity, and highly skilled technical personnel ensures that we can fully support advanced satellite systems like the C‑3 constellation.”
L. Barbee Ponder, General Counsel & Vice President of Regulatory Affairs, added: “We again thank our US Commercial Services officers at our embassies around the region for their invaluable assistance in 2020 that led to our partnership with OTE who has fully supported our expanding ground station needs.”
