Aled Jones has opened up about his experience on The Masked Singer, as he prepares to embark on his cathedral tour. 

On Saturday, the Welsh singer, 51, was unveiled as Traffic Cone on ITV's guessing game - and he teased that his character has 'become a real person to me.' 

Speaking in an exclusive interview, the presenter recalled: 'When I saw the drawing of the Traffic Cone – it's really weird he's become a real person to me – they said I would adopt a character and I said, "yeah whatever, course it's not gonna happen!"

'After a couple of hours in the cone, I became Traffic Cone with the finger bumping and terrible dad dancing!'

A few weeks ago, comedian Rob Beckett took to Twitter to prank fans of the singing show, sharing a message that teased he was in fact the man behind the Traffic Cone costume.

Of this jest, Aled said: 'Rob Beckett didn’t get in touch about the long running traffic cone joke. I messaged him on Saturday night and said we should go on tour together - but I don’t think there was enough room in my traffic cone costume. 

'Lots of people thought it was me in the second week - but Rob threw them off the scent!' 

The Classic FM presenter added that since his spell on the show, people have been shouting Traffic Cone or Coney at him - which he quipped makes a nice change from Snowman. 

He also looked back on his performance of Rick Astley's 80s tune Never Gonna Give You Up.  

'It was brilliant, although I made the mistake of moving around quite a bit in the rehearsal - and trying to do the Rick Astley dance moves dressed as a traffic cone, it was pretty tricky. I was so out of breath and sweaty, I came out of a song soaking wet!'

He concluded: 'It was the biggest show I'd ever done. Everything about it - the set is massive, the costumes are massive!

'I got a lot of texts saying "it's definitely you", and I was just like, "I don’t know what you're talking about!"'

One venture may have wrapped up, but it comes as Aled is about to embark on another.

The classical world vocal powerhouse has announced a very special tour for February and March 2022, as he brings his unique concert of music and stories to cathedrals and churches around the UK.

Beginning at St Mary’s Church in Nottingham on 23rd February, the tour will take in some of the most stunning holy buildings in the UK, including Bristol Cathedral, Manchester Monastery, Liverpool Anglican Cathedral, Coventry Cathedral and Durham Cathedral, before ending at St Asaph Cathedral on 26th March.

The tour will see Aled perform tracks from his album Blessings, which features songs from a range of different faiths – Quaker, Christian, Catholic, Muslim and Buddhism – including uplifting hymns, texts and scriptures set to music. 

Having reached the top of the Official UK Classical Chart upon its release in 2020, it also reached the top 15 in the Official UK Album Chart, and features best loved classics including How Can I Keep From Singing?, Sunrise Sunset, Ave Maria and Bless This House.

40 years have passed since Aled was a choir boy at Bangor Cathedral, having gone onto receive countless prestigious awards, record-breaking sales and chart successes. 

In other career highlights, he has performed for the Pope and the Royal Family, received an MBE and racked up over 10 million album sales.
