TECHEU VD MTONIC (IEU TI 2)

The promoter, Morphotonics BV, develops advanced Roll-to-Plate Nanoimprint Lithography (R2P NIL) equipment that enables high-precision, large-area replication of nanostructures and microstructures for industries such as advanced screens and smart glasses. Their technology bridges the gap between research, development and innovation (RDI) and mass production, offering scalable solutions for next-generation electronics.

The aim is to support the promoter's RDI activities focused on developing and industrialising next-generation R2P NIL unique proprietary platforms, enabling customers to manufacture emerging technologies such as augmented reality (AR) smart glasses with high precision and lower costs.

The project is aligned with the InvestEU objective of promoting research, development and innovation. The operation aims to support RDI activities centred on the creation and industrialisation of proprietary next-generation Roll-to-Plate Nanoimprint Lithography (R2P NIL) platforms, designed to deliver exceptional nanoscale accuracy, high production yields, and cost-effective performance at industrial scale.

The Company remains at an early stage of development and requires substantial investment in order to fulfil its go-to-market strategy and achieve break-even. The proposed EIB Convertible Loan is complementary to the Company's Series B round, a key inflection point in its development, and is expected to have a positive crowd in effect by attracting new investors, while supporting the scale-up from R&D to high volume manufacturing. 

This initiative is classified as a Thematic product, with its principal goal being to position Morphotonics as a leading technology provider in scalable nanoimprint manufacturing, especially for applications such as advanced screens, augmented reality/artificial intelligence, and smart glasses. The financing is structured in two tranches and contributes to strengthening the Company's capital structure by diversifying funding sources and providing longer tenor and greater flexibility compared to standard market alternatives.

The project would not have been carried out (to the same extent) by the EIB without the InvestEU support.

he project's activities will be performed in existing buildings. However, during the appraisal, it will be ascertained whether the project falls under Annex I or Annex II of the Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) Directive 2011/92/EU, as amended by Directive 2014/52/EU.

The promoter has been assessed by the EIB as being a private company not operating in the utilities sector and not having a status of a contracting entity, and is thus not subject to EU rules on public procurement.
