A young girl and a man were killed and two others, including a Las Vegas police officer, were injured in a shooting early Monday in the southwest valley.

It was the second time in less than a week that a Las Vegas police officer was shot. On August 4, Metro officer Austin Abdelnabi died after he was shot multiple times in a gunbattle in east Las Vegas.

Metropolitan Police Department Capt. Adam Seely told reporters Monday that officers were responding to a domestic dispute in the 4500 block of Pigeon Point Court, near Buffalo Drive and Peace Way, at about 12:30 a.m. The home is located in the Buffalo Ranch gated HOA community.

A woman had called Metro to report a man who was chasing her with a blowtorch trying to set her on fire.

“The call was then upgraded when the female stated that she had been shot,” Seely said. “LVMPD officers arrived and, based on the circumstances and details of the incident, immediately made entry into the residence.”

Inside the residence, police found the suspect, who opened fire and struck a Metro officer, who was taken to University Medical Center, where her condition stabilized, Seely said. She was later discharged from the hospital and is recovering at home, Steve Grammas, president of the Las Vegas Police Protective Association, said Monday afternoon.

Another officer returned fire at the suspect before police backed out of the residence and a barricade situation was declared, Seely said. SWAT and crisis negotiators entered the home a short time later and found the suspect and a girl suffering from gunshot wounds. Both died at the scene.

The woman who reported the call left the residence before police arrived, Seely said. The woman was being evaluated for minor injuries.

The shooting was still under investigation, Seely said.

At the scene after the briefing, police still had a portion of Whitlock Mills Avenue, between Whaleback and Grindle Point streets, that leads to Pigeon Point Court blocked off with police tape. Several Metro vehicles remained in the area.

Hanson Chang, who lives at a house facing Pigeon Point Court, said he saw at least five police cars drive by shortly after the reported shooting took place.

“There was a lot for sure,” Chang said. “A lot of red and blue lights.”

Another nearby resident, Jim Moore, said he woke up at roughly 2:30 a.m. to flashing lights and police sirens. Moore said he looked out of his window onto Buffalo and saw several police vehicles, including a SWAT truck.

“It seemed like most of the activity was over,” Moore said.

The shooting is the 10th involving a Metro officer in 2026, Seely said.

Jonathan Williams, whose home also faces Pigeon Point, said he and his wife saw several police cars gathered nearby after they woke up this morning. He added that the police activity nearby was out of the ordinary because the neighborhood is usually quiet.

“You never expect it to happen right in front of your (house), in your safe place,” Williams said. “We’re in a gated community, protection all around us, and then you see something like this happen.”
