Richard Reed Parry is a Canadian musician, composer, and producer who has a net worth of $5 million. Richard Reed Parry is best known as a longtime member of the Grammy-winning indie rock band Arcade Fire. A prolific multi-instrumentalist, Parry has played guitar, double bass, keyboards, drums, percussion, accordion, and numerous other instruments on the band's recordings and during its famously energetic live performances.
Parry joined Arcade Fire during the group's formative years and played an important role in assembling the lineup that recorded the landmark 2004 debut album "Funeral." Alongside Win Butler, Régine Chassagne, Tim Kingsbury, and Jeremy Gara, he remains part of Arcade Fire's core lineup. Former member Will Butler performed with the band for nearly two decades.
Outside Arcade Fire, Parry has pursued an unusually varied musical career spanning contemporary classical music, experimental rock, film scoring, production, and his work with the instrumental group Bell Orchestre.
Early LifeRichard Reed Parry was born on October 4, 1977, in Toronto, Canada, and grew up largely in Ottawa. He came from a highly musical and artistic family. His father, David Parry, performed with the folk group Friends of Fiddler's Green, while his mother, Caroline Balderston Parry, was a poet and musician. His sister, Evalyn Parry, became a songwriter, theater artist, and writer.
Richard attended Canterbury High School in Ottawa before studying electroacoustics and contemporary dance at Concordia University in Montreal.

Parry became involved with Arcade Fire during the band's early Montreal period and helped stabilize the lineup after several original members departed. Among the musicians he helped bring into the group were Tim Kingsbury and Jeremy Gara.
Arcade Fire released "Funeral" in 2004. The album became one of the defining indie-rock records of its era and turned the previously obscure Montreal band into an international touring act.
The group followed with "Neon Bible" in 2007 and "The Suburbs" in 2010. "The Suburbs" reached #1 in the United States, Canada, and several other countries and won the Grammy Award for Album of the Year.
Arcade Fire subsequently released "Reflektor," "Everything Now," "We," and "Pink Elephant." The band's elaborate arrangements have made Parry particularly valuable because of his ability to switch between instruments during individual songs and concerts.
Bell Orchestre and Solo CareerParry co-founded the instrumental ensemble Bell Orchestre with violinist Sarah Neufeld before either musician became famous through Arcade Fire. The group released "Recording a Tape the Colour of the Light" in 2005, followed by "As Seen Through Windows" and, after a long break, "House Music."
"As Seen Through Windows" won a Juno Award for Instrumental Album of the Year.
Parry's solo work has moved even further into experimental and contemporary classical music. His 2014 album "Music for Heart and Breath" featured performers including Kronos Quartet, yMusic, Bryce and Aaron Dessner, and Nadia Sirota. The compositions were designed to be performed in time with the musicians' heartbeats and breathing.
He followed with "Quiet River of Dust Vol. 1" in 2018 and "Quiet River of Dust Vol. 2: That Side of the River" in 2019.
In 2024, Parry, Sarah Neufeld, and cellist Rebecca Foon released the collaborative album "First Sounds."
CollaborationsParry has contributed to recordings and performances by numerous other artists, including The National, Sufjan Stevens, The Unicorns, Islands, and Little Scream. He has worked as an arranger, instrumentalist, composer, and producer, giving him a musical résumé that extends well beyond his work with Arcade Fire.
Parry married musician Laurel Sprengelmeyer, better known professionally as Little Scream, in 2019.
