Preparations are on for the visit of Union Home Minister Amit Shah to Puducherry to participate in the presentation ceremony of the President of India’s Police Colour to the Puducherry Police on August 8.

As per information available with the territorial police, the Home Minister will reach Puducherry on August 8. He will participate in the ceremony to be held at the Police Training School ground at Gorimedu on the next day (August 9).

At the ceremony to be organised by the Puducherry Police, Mr. Shah will hand over a ceremonial flag to the force, symbolic of the conferment of the President’s Colour award. There will also be a parade by different wings of the territorial police, said an official.

The President of India, on May 8, officially, announced the conferment of the prestigious President’s Police Colour (Nishaan) on the Puducherry police in recognition of its “exceptional service, discipline and distinguished achievements.” 

Earlier, the Home Minister was scheduled to visit Puducherry on July 25 but the programme got cancelled last minute. “The visit has been confirmed now. We have renewed the parade rehearsal by the police at the PTS ground,” said a police officer.

As part of the preparations, the Department of Personnel and Administrative Reforms on Monday issued an order appointing Director of Local Administration Department M. Adharsh as liaison officer in connection with the visit of the Home Minister.
