Alliance Francaise is hosting an exhibition of photographs captured by late photographer John Mandeen.

Mandeen, who grew up in California came to Pondicherry in 1968. He was accepted by the Mother (Mirra Alfassa) as an Ashramite at the age of 24. For over four decades, Mr. Mandeen, through his camera, captured the evolution of the international township, in vivid images of the life in and around Auroville. He has also documented the construction of Matrimandir from its early stages.

His photographs reveal stories, emotions and reflect profound sensitivity to both humanity and natural world. The images showcased at Alliance, include those from Auroville, those taken during his travel to different parts of the country including the moments he spent in Benaras and Sarnath. The expo will go on till August 16.
