Alameda County moves to block Dublin prison as ICE facility

Дата публикации: 07-04-2026 08:53:23

Alameda County on Tuesday is expected to officially oppose possible plans to turn the former federal prison in Dublin into a U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) detention center.
The county’s Board of Supervisors plan would be largely symbolic since the site is federal land, not county property.
It has been reported that the Department of Homeland Security has said it has no plans to turn the site into a detention center for undocumented immigrants.
But some are skeptical of that statement after representatives from ICE reportedly visited the site last year.
The city of Dublin passed a similar resolution in December to keep ICE out of the site.
The federal government closed FCI Dublin in 2024 after a string of oversight failures and misconduct by staff, including the sexual abuse of female inmates.
The prison itself is reportedly unsafe, with mold, asbestos and crumbling infrastructure.
