If you happen to visit a Sushiro restaurant in Japan during August, prepare to be greeted by four sushi-themed GR toy cars
If you’re a fan of the Gazoo Racing lineup and you like sushi, Toyota built this one for you. The automaker has partnered with Sushiro, Japan’s largest conveyor-belt sushi chain, on a nationwide promotion that includes a genuinely cool set of scale models. The promo commits to the theme far more than these tie-ins usually bother to.

The campaign, called GR Sushigo!, pulls together food-themed collectibles, custom digital games, and a family track day at Fuji Speedway, all open to customers of the Japanese restaurant chain. At the center of it sit four custom pull-back toy cars, each one inspired by a popular sushi topping.

Each GR model measures roughly 3.1 in (8 cm) long and 1.4 in (3.5 cm) wide, and each wears a distinct livery modeled after a classic dish. On the sports car side, the GR 86 gets a bright yellow scheme based on tamago (sweet egg omelet), while the GR Supra takes on a blue-and-white motif that mimics shime-saba (marinated mackerel).
The rally-bred hot hatches, meanwhile, go for seafood liveries. The GR Corolla is dressed up as maguro (bluefin tuna), and the GR Yaris gets a black-and-red graphic set mirroring ikura (salmon roe). What the company didn’t do is use the collaboration to tease the upcoming GR Celica and/or GR MR2, which feels like a missed opportunity.

Customers across Japan can collect one of 180,000 available scale models by ordering designated items at Sushiro restaurants. The kid’s sushi kit is served in a multi-functional box that folds into a race track mat, a target game ramp, or a transport truck storage box.

In addition to the physical toys, Sushiro locations outfitted with large “Digi-ro” touchscreen ordering monitors get an exclusive Gazoo Racing Mode. Placing food orders fills an on-screen gauge that unlocks the GR Sushiro Cup, a virtual mini-game set at Fuji Speedway. Sushiro’s flagship store in Tokyo has also received a full motorsport makeover with circuit-themed table mats and racing decor.

To anchor the promotion, which runs through August 2026, the two companies are handing out a real-world track experience. Diners who spend ¥2,000 (about $13) or more can enter a draw for an exclusive event at the actual Fuji Speedway on October 12. Fifteen winning parent-child pairs will get to drive real GR production cars on the circuit, race karts, and make sushi alongside professional chefs.
Toyota’s performance sub-brand is no stranger to food-chain tie-ins. It recently handed out a GR GT and other Tomica scale models as Happy Meal toys in Japanese McDonald’s.
