I love OLED displays, and I am not shy to say they are the future. It's hard not to recommend an OLED display, especially when they are now abundant in the market. While major monitor makers are prioritizing high refresh rates, the latest OLED technologies, better HDR performance, and higher resolutions on conventional OLED monitors, Uperfect is trying to build the perfect catalog featuring only portable displays.

I have been testing Uperfect monitors for a while now, and almost every display has impressed me. I particularly loved the UColor O2 16-inch OLED display, which is one of the brightest OLED portable monitors on the market, but that display lacked the touch functionality, which the new GR14BU OLED monitor brings natively. In this post, we will look at Uperfect's newest portable OLED display that promises great performance through high resolution and high refresh rate operation, as well as touchscreen feature, aiming to deliver what gamers need on their desks.

Packaging and Contents

Uperfect uses the same packaging style for all of its display products. The GR14BU, therefore, comes in a well-protected package with foam padding that minimizes the risk of damage. Inside the box, the company ships everything you need to get started right away and here are the stuff you will find upon opening the box:

  1. Uperfect GR14BU 14-inch OLED monitor
  2. 2x USB Type-C cables
  3. 1x Mini HDMI to HDMI cable
  4. Power Adapter and a Type A to Type C power cable
  5. L-type connectors for HDMI and USB C
  6. User Manual
Technical Specifications

Uperfect's GR14BU boasts a 14-inch display screen size with a 3K resolution. 3K is 2880 x 1800, which is almost twice the number of pixels, offering sharper image quality. At 14-inch, 3K resolution delivers approximately 244 PPI (Pixel Per Inch). This pixel density is pretty high, making visuals and text incredibly sharper than you would usually see on conventional monitors.

The GR14BU is capped at 120 Hz, which is ideal for gaming, but now as the world is transitioning to higher refresh rate displays, 120 Hz isn't surprising anymore. However, the GR14BU brings a good feature-set apart from high refresh rate operation that is difficult not to appreciate. Probably, the most notable selling points for the monitor is its OLED display technology, which is currently one of the most trending display types in the world.

Almost every major monitor vendor is releasing high-end OLED displays with fourth and fifth gen OLED panel that brings a noticeable upgrade over predecessors. While GR14BU isn't something you would expect to see a fourth or fifth gen OLED panel on, it's specifically tailored for the masses who would want extremely deep blacks and great color reproduction without affecting the brightness.

It's also great to see some improvements in responsiveness in GR14BU over other Uperfect OLED displays as we are now down to just 0.1ms response time. It ensures instant frame transition, eliminating ghosting while gaming. So, 120 Hz along with 0.1ms of response time is what you would want for competitive gaming, but of course, the smaller 14-inch display size might not be ideal for everyone.

As far as the color reproduction is concerned, the Uperfect claims that the GR14BU offers an incredible 120% DCI-P3 color gamut, which should really offer vibrant colors. Moreover, its color accuracy of Delta E < 2 is a great start for professionals, which positions the monitor in both gaming and professional segments.

That said, one of the most important visual properties remains its brightness. While typical OLED tend to max out at under 300 nits of brightness, the GR14BU can max up to 500 nits. This is similar to the UColor O2 monitor, which delivered very bright visuals in well-lit environments.

Lastly, let's not forget one of the main selling points of the GR14BU, which is its touchscreen feature. An OLED display letting you control its features with fingertips makes it a convenient choice for work. While it might not be ideal for gaming, for professional works, touchscreen can be extremely helpful, especially when the monitor supports gestures like tapping, swiping, scrolling, and dragging. Unfortunately, these features are disabled on Mac devices, which is why GR14BU feels more ideal for Windows-based systems.

Connectivity and Compatibility

Connectivity is straight-forward on the GR14BU. It's very similar to other portable monitors by Uperfect. You get full-featured USB Type-C ports and a Mini HDMI port for display output. Both USB-C ports support video, audio, and power-delivery, as well as touch functionality when connected to compatible devices. I personally used the HDMI port as I tested the monitor with my PC, and connected it through the GPU.

I think compatibility-wise, it's satisfactory as you can connect it to your Windows desktops, laptops, Linux devices, Android smartphones, as well as macOS systems. Moreover, you can also connect it popular gaming handhelds to game on the go, and it's also compatible with modern gaming consoles such as PlayStation 5 and Xbox consoles, which makes it a perfect choice for everyone.

Performance

The Uperfect GR14BU monitor delivers an impressive viewing experience thanks to its OLED panel. Colors appear really vibrant and rich, while deep blacks give images excellent contrast, bringing superb visuals. The monitor OSD also gives the option to control the black levels and contrast, through which users can tweak the display quality as per their needs.

It's also incredibly bright, and although it doesn't appear to be as bright as the Uperfect UColor 2, it is still bright enough for comfortable use in well-lit rooms and offices without feeling washed out. With HDR enabled through the monitor OSD menu, it creates very vibrant image quality, but peak brightness may wash away some details in bright areas. Therefore, I recommend turning it off for better image quality.

One of its standout features is the touchscreen, which you won't usually find on most OLED displays. Touch inputs are responsive and accurate, making it genuinely useful for productivity tasks such as navigating Windows, editing documents, or making quick adjustments in applications.

Portability is another major advantage. The GR14BU is compact, lightweight, and easy to carry alongside a laptop, making it an excellent secondary display for professionals who travel frequently or gamers who want an extra screen on the go. Its slim form factor means it fits comfortably into most laptop bags without adding much bulk.

A gameplay scene from 'Counter-Strike: Global Offensive' shows a first-person view with three players labeled BubbleTee, BuG, and DRAXIBE89 in a warehouse area, alongside on-screen text displaying 'FPS 171' and various CPU and GPU metrics. A first-person view in 'Counter-Strike: Global Offensive' (CS: GO) shows a player wielding an MP9 submachine gun with an opponent injured in the background, while the on-screen display indicates 'FPS 162 | 124 | 209'.

For gaming, the monitor supports a 100Hz refresh rate over HDMI, providing noticeably smoother gameplay than a standard 60Hz display, and up to 120 Hz through USB Type-C. The experience is enjoyable, particularly in AAA titles, where you will usually find 100 Hz adequate. During testing, ghosting was minimal to virtually nonexistent, making it ideal for competitive gaming as well. That said, competitive eSports players will likely prefer a larger display with a higher refresh rate. I personally struggled playing CS due to incredibly small details because of its small size, but I am also coming from a much bigger 24-inch display.

A close-up of an electronic device's side panel featuring four silver buttons and symbols indicating various functions. The on-screen display shows a settings menu with 'HDR MODE' set to 'OFF' and resolution details listed as 2880x1800 100HZ and max resolution 2880x1800 120HZ. A monitor settings menu displays options for 'BRIGHTNESS,' 'BLACK LEVEL,' 'CONTRAST,' 'ECO,' 'DCR,' and shows resolution settings of 2880x1800 at 100Hz and 120Hz.

The on-screen display (OSD) is also well-equipped, offering all the essential controls users would expect. You will find the silver buttons on the left, through which you can manage the display properties easily. You will find various options like brightness, contrast, color settings, HDR, and other display parameters to fine-tune the image according to preferences.

The Verdict

I think the Uperfect GR14BU is a decent addition to the company's catalog, provided there aren't many companies providing small OLED panels, especially with the touchscreen feature. GR14BU is quite small, but still packs a punch through excellent image quality, which positions it in the premium segment. Unlike conventional IPS panels, the GR14BU is a much more solid alternative for enthusiasts who would like to enjoy sharper visuals, vibrant colors, faster response time, and deeper blacks.

The monitor is almost perfect for productivity, but I think I am not ready to recommend it to gamers yet. 14-inch display is quite small for gaming. Although it's totally fine for casual gaming or playing Triple-A titles, for competitive gaming, I will still recommend bigger displays, particularly those that can run at a much higher refresh rate. At 100 Hz, gaming in fast-paced games like CS2 felt a bit choppy, but in non-competitive titles, it is still a decent option.

For $399, the Uperfect GR14BU is an expensive option, but considering you get the touchscreen feature, a lightweight design, and a compact OLED display, I don't have many complaints. You can purchase the Uperfect GR14BU from the official website.
