Conventional IPS portable displays are plenty in the market, but OLED, Mini LED, and QLED displays are still less common. After having used several IPS portable monitors as well as a 16-inch OLED from Uperfect, I got the opportunity to try out the company's new offering, which is a 4K QLED portable monitor.

At this point, it's hard to ignore QLED or any other non-conventional LED panels, and this is why the new GR19BU makes complete sense to remain in the market, offering users a better alternative. The Uperfect GR19BU is a 19-inch QLED display that carries some great specifications and features, and we will examine them all in this review post, followed by our verdict on whether you should buy the GR19BU or not.

Packaging and Contents

A box labeled 'Portable Monitor' is on a wooden surface, displaying an image of a monitor with a blue abstract design. A portable monitor in a white box lies on a wooden surface. A portable monitor kit includes a black monitor, an instruction manual labeled 'User Manual,' several packaged cables from 'Smart Digital Life,' and multiple plug adapters on a wooden surface.

Uperfect's packaging is universal across all its portable monitors. From 13-inch to 27-inch portable monitors, I have consistently found the same but decent packaging box that carries all the components safely. Uperfect also shipped me a Docking station and a Vesa stand, but that's something you will need to purchase separately, as these don't come inside the box with GR19BU. Here's what you will find in the box:

  1. Uperfect GR19BU display
  2. 1x HDMI to Mini HDMI cable
  3. 2x USB Type C cables
  4. Power adapter
  5. HDMI and Type C L-type connectors
  6. User Manual

Specifications and Features

Uperfect GR19BU offers a 19-inch QLED panel with a 4K resolution, i.e., 3840x2160p. At this size, the monitor is delivering an exceptionally high pixel per inch or pixel density, resulting in crisp and sharp image quality. The display uses Quantum Dot technology, which helps in offering a wider color gamut than conventional IPS panels while also retaining wide viewing angles.

A matte-finish, bezel-less computer monitor with a black frame, placed on a wooden surface.

The monitor offers a 16:9 aspect ratio, thin bezels, and a solid construction, which has been consistent on all Uperfect offerings. The monitor offers up to 144 Hz refresh rate at 4K, and this works with an HDMI connection out of the box. Alongside a high refresh rate, the display also offers FreeSync support, which can be turned on from the OSD menu easily. Uperfect advertises up to 500 nits of peak brightness, a contrast ratio of 1200:1, and HDR support.

The display offers a wide color gamut, and as per Uperfect, it includes 108.4% Adobe RGB, 107.8% DCI-P3, and 146.2% sRGB color spaces that should result in a vibrant color reproduction. GR19BU offers a 10-bit color depth through 8-bit + FRC, which allows smoother color banding. Apart from bringing such a vibrant display, the display also offers an accurate color reproduction with Delta E < 2, which should make it ideal for professionals as well.

Coming to the build quality, it uses a CNC-machined aluminum body that feels premium and durable from all sides. There is no flex despite an ultra-slim profile. The monitor weighs roughly 1kg, which positions it as a wonderful option for travel. As I said previously, Uperfect has a dedicated VESA stand, which you can use for various adjustments, but the built-in kickstands let you get started right away. Both are solid options, but the kickstand configuration is more stable.

Connectivity and Compatibility

Connectivity is on par with other competitors, and you will see a handful of ports on the monitor, including a Mini HDMI port, 2x USB Type C ports, and a 3.5 mm audio jack on the other side. On the same side, you will find numerous buttons to control and navigate through the OSD menu, helping you with customizing and tweaking settings such as brightness, contrast, vibrance, HDR, adaptive sync, and more.

Since the Type C ports support DisplayPort Alt mode and power delivery, this allows it to remain compatible with laptops, handheld PCs, and even smartphones. The same goes for regular desktop PCs, where, in my case, I simply connected the monitor to the GPU in my rig using the HDMI cable.

Performance

Out of the box, the display looked vibrant with punchy colors and decent contrast. Factory calibration was good enough that most users won't need to adjust the settings. The whites appeared neutral instead of overly blue, and the display was adequately bright even at 50%.

Uperfect says it can reach 500 nits, and in our testing, we saw that the monitor is indeed very bright at 100% brightness level. This makes it suitable for well-lit environments such as offices. As far as color reproduction goes, Uperfect has made it quite vibrant, and the reds particularly look saturated without appearing cartoonish.

Skintones were also natural, and landscape photography showed good color separation. All in all, the colors remained consistent across different types of content, be it a game or any video.

Contrast was satisfactory, but not something you would find amazing. Black levels were decent, and thankfully, there was no bleeding. Viewing angles were also great, and the colors remained consistent when viewing from the sides.

That said, there are some caveats, like the built-in HDR option in the OSD menu. When you turn it on, the monitor pushes peak brightness aggressively in HDR mode, and this comes at the cost of blown-out highlights, where bright areas lose subtle detail. I preferred to go with Windows built-in HDR feature rather than the monitor's own HDR.

In gaming, the monitor offered a smooth experience, thanks to a 144 Hz refresh rate. Everything appeared vibrant and smooth, and thanks to FreeSync, the monitor eliminates screen tearing to a good level. However, due to a high response time of 9 ms, I could clearly see ghosting in fast movements. So, it's definitely not something I would recommend for competitive games.

Verdict

All in all, the Uperfect GR19BU offers a decent viewing experience that takes care of all of your needs. Whether you are a gamer or a content creator, the GR19BU brings wonderful specifications and features out of the box. Except for some minor caveats mentioned above, the GR19BU is a terrific display that brings sharper and more vivid image quality. The image quality definitely stands out when compared to conventional IPS displays, and with a wide color gamut, it's able to offer greatly saturated images, enhancing the viewing experience drastically.

Currently priced at $479, I think it's a bit on the expensive side, and I think the price tag should have been under $400. This is especially considering Uperfect's OLED 16-inch monitor costs nearly $500 and offers a much better viewing experience.
