It’s hard to believe that Taylor Swift and Travis Kelce’s widely discussed wedding was just over one month ago, and since then, we’ve been given very little intel on the big day from the 1,000 guests who attended.
If you need a reminder, the couple’s big day raised eyebrows across social media for a whole bunch of reasons; from the Madison Square Garden venue, to the confirmation of their nuptials being displayed on a Jumbotron outside of the arena, the whole spectacle was branded “performative” and “tacky.”
The guest list, which included people like Brad Pitt and Steven J. Demetriou, also left people in disbelief, with Adam Sandler officiating the whole thing. It was also said that there was a raffle for guests to win luxury prizes, that Taylor walked down the aisle to an instrumental version of her own song, “Love Story,” and that the couple had some pretty surprising lyrics from her track “Blank Space” embroidered onto handkerchiefs for guests.
In addition, New York locals were left frustrated by the disruptive road closures ahead of the holiday weekend in the areas surrounding the wedding venue, as well as parts of the city losing power during a heatwave while the famous faces enjoyed the lavish celebration without interruption.
Now, TV host Graham Norton has shared some insight into his experience attending the wedding — and he coyly admitted that there were some things that he would have done differently.
During a recent appearance on The Chris Evans Breakfast Show on Virgin Radio, Graham was asked: “Can we talk about Taylor Swift’s wedding?” To which he replied: “You can ask me, I can’t really tell you anything, but ask me.”
The host then suggested: “OK, what would be the best question I could ask you to maybe harvest some kind of answer?” And Graham was happy to oblige by delivering some kind of statement on what Taylor’s big day was like.
“I mean, look, I was saying this yesterday on the radio: Like, when gay weddings started, I remember everyone going: ‘Oh, what was it, what’s a gay wedding like, what would that be like?’” he began. “Yeah, it’s like a wedding, you know? So that was the most interesting thing about the Taylor Swift thing.”
“Being in the cars, blacked out car, New York is all shut down, and you’re heading towards Madison Square Garden,” Graham went on. “That was the kind of big, exciting… That was like: ‘Oh my god, oh my god, what’s it gonna be like,’ and then you went through these big curtains, and the car’s there, you get out of the car… The minute you got out of the car, you were at a wedding.”
“It was sort of like any wedding,” he insisted. “You saw things, you know: ‘Oh that’s a lovely touch,’ and then you saw things like: ‘Oooh, I wouldn’t have done that,’ it was somebody’s wedding. It was a lovely, lovely wedding.”
Understandably, the presenter then pushed: “OK, what wouldn’t you have done that she did?” But Graham did not take the bait, simply repeating: “No, no, no, no,” between laughter.
