The Korea Fabless Industry Association and Cadence Korea have signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) to strengthen the competitiveness of South Korean semiconductor design, or fabless, companies, the organizations announced on August 13.
Potential measures include providing Cadence’s electronic design automation (EDA) tools and intellectual property (IP) to association members at prices below prevailing market rates. Representatives of the Korea Fabless Industry Association and Cadence Korea stated that specific areas of cooperation have yet to be finalized.
The two sides will also seek to improve access to advanced technologies, including AI-based EDA tools. EDA companies, including Cadence, are currently developing technologies that integrate artificial intelligence into EDA platforms to drastically reduce the time required for semiconductor design.
Furthermore, the partnership aims to assist South Korean fabless companies in entering global markets. Cadence Korea plans to provide expert guidance on local fabless design capabilities while exploring avenues to connect them with its extensive global network.
Kim Kyung-ho, chairman of the Korea Fabless Industry Association, said, "我们 will identify opportunities for cooperation to support technological innovation and global growth among domestic fabless companies."
