An 18-year-old man was charged in connection with an early August triple shooting in Norristown, according to the Montgomery County District Attorney’s Office.
According to prosecutors, Rashaad Oliver, of Pottstown, was charged Aug. 12 with three counts of attempted murder, aggravated assault and other felonies related to the shooting that injured three people at a home on East Chestnut Street.
At approximately 5 p.m. on Saturday, Aug. 1, Norristown officers were dispatched to the home after receiving reports of a shooting. When they arrived, they found three victims inside the home: a 17-year-old girl who was shot in the left thigh, a 19-year-old man who was shot in the left lower extremity and a 25-year-old man who was also shot in the left lower extremity.
All three victims were transported to trauma centers, prosecutors said.
At the scene, police found three .40-caliber fired cartridge casings, two ballistic fragments and tooth fragments, according to officials.
During their investigation, Norristown Police and Montgomery County detectives recovered cellphone and surveillance video, obtained victim and witnesses interviews and collected other evidence.
The investigation led detectives to identify Oliver as the suspected shooter and said another man, identified as Zion Kennedy, was with him at the time of the incident. Both men showed up at the home wearing masks, according to the criminal complaint.
According to prosecutors, the investigation found that Oliver and Kennedy approached the home and got into a fight with a man who was standing outside. Officials said Oliver can be seen punching the man, who punched him back in the mouth, breaking Oliver’s front teeth.
Prosecutors said that’s when Oliver fired three shots, hitting the victims, two of whom were inside the home. The suspects then ran away from the scene, officials said.
According to the criminal complaint, after reviewing the contents of Oliver’s phone, a detective found a conversation believed to be between Oliver and his mother in which he texted, “U got insurance for my teeth… I fell messed my teeth up… It’s cool tho just a lil chipped.”
On Aug. 4, Oliver and Kennedy were located in Atlantic City and arrested by the New Jersey State Police on unrelated charges. They were later extradited to Montgomery County.
Oliver was charged with multiple offenses, and a judge set his cash bail at $1 million.
His preliminary hearing is scheduled for 9:30 a.m. on Aug. 26.
