A 14-year-old was found with a loaded handgun while police performed a foot patrol in Edgemoor, Delaware, officials say.
According to New Castle County Police, officers were assigned to conduct foot patrols in the area of Rysing Drive in Edgemoor Gardens, Delaware, on Aug. 11.
While performing the patrols around 2:43 p.m., officers say they saw a group of people walking in the road. Officers stopped three teenagers, two 14-year-old boys and one 16-year-old boy, according to investigators.
Police say the officers developed probable cause and searched one of the 14-year-olds, finding a loaded 9mm handgun inside his pants.
During the investigation, officers also discovered the second 14-year-old was in violation of a court-ordered curfew from a separate incident, police say.
The two 14-year-olds were taken into custody and brought to New Castle County Police Headquarters.
One 14-year-old was charged with possession of a firearm by a person under 21, carrying a concealed deadly weapon, and a misdemeanor count of resisting arrest. Police say he was arraigned and committed to a juvenile detention center after failing to post cash bail.
The second 14-year-old was charged with a misdemeanor count of breach of release.
