Дата публикации: 14-08-2026 15:52:19

The Chicago area faces an increased risk of major flooding as another round of thunderstorms is set to bring torrential rainfall to parts of the region through Saturday morning.
Widespread flash flooding could begin as early as late Friday night, with the National Weather Service saying localized rainfall rates may exceed three inches per hour.
As a result, a flash flood watch effect takes effect at 10 p.m. and continues through Saturday morning for portions of DeKalb, Grundy Kankakee, Kane, Kendall, DuPage, Cook and Will counties. Lake, Porter, Newton and Jasper counties in northwest Indiana are also included.

Localized flash flooding is possible, particularly south of I-80, where meteorologists are concerned about the possibility of widespread flash flooding.
Along with the flooding threat, more thunderstorms are expected to develop, with the most widespread activity along and south of Interstate 88. Furthermore, locally damaging winds cannot be ruled out.

The threat of potential severe weather may not end there.
Scattered showers and thunderstorms may continue into the afternoon on Saturday, with drier weather taking hold in the evening.
A strong-to-severe storm is then possible Saturday night through early Sunday morning.
