Severe weather, multiple rounds of heavy rain in Chicago forecast again

Дата публикации: 12-08-2026 20:18:20

If you’re sick of rain, the NBC 5 Storm Team has some bad news, as severe thunderstorms and heavy rain remain in the forecast for several more days.
The area has been inundated with rain in recent days as a stormy weather pattern has delivered system after system into the region, and things aren’t expected to improve much, with multiple rounds of strong-to-severe thunderstorms and plenty of rain expected through this weekend.
On both Thursday and Friday, the Chicago area could continue to see strong-to-severe storms, with the Storm Prediction Center putting the region at a “marginal” risk of severe weather on Friday and calling for thunderstorms on Thursday.
The main threats with any severe storms that develop would be gusty winds and hail, but perhaps the bigger concern will be forecast models showing multiple rounds of heavy rain “training” over the area, rolling over the same areas over and over again and sending precipitation totals soaring.
The next round of showers and storms could arrive by late Thursday morning or into the afternoon hours, and multiple rounds of rain could fall during the day, leading to some concerns over the potential for flash flooding.
Friday will again see a marginal risk of severe weather according to the Storm Prediction Center, and those showers could stick around late into the day on Friday and for a good chunk of the day Saturday, with forecast models continuing to show an area of low-pressure slowly churning through the region and delivering heavy amounts of precipitation.
Rain will again be possible Sunday, but there could finally be some light at the end of the tunnel early next week, as the forecast could begin to clear up, with dry conditions and highs in the upper-70s and low-80s possible according to the NBC 5 Storm Team.
