The delegation from the People’s Republic of Bangladesh headed by the Minister of Science and Technology Yeafesh Osman visited the Volgodonsk Branch of JSC “Mechanical Engineering Division-technology” (part of a Mechanical Engineering Division of the Atomic Energy Corporation Rosatom). The main purpose of the visit was to check the status of manufacture of NPP equipment for two units of Rooppur NPP under construction in Bangladesh.

Today in the workshop of Atommash the steam generator vessels for unit 1 are in line for installation of headers, the upper semi-vessel and the lower semi-vessel of a reactor have been manufactured.  During a month specialists will start welding a finishing weld.  

The guests visited the workshops; they saw the installation of internals in the steam generator and welding of the steam generator vessel parts, evaluated the progress of the reactor pressure vessel manufacture.  During the round the specialists of the plant told the delegation about the main manufacturing processes and inspection events.  The parties discussed the issues to be agreed for optimization of inspection process during equipment manufacture, which are associated with compliance evaluation, to ensure the compliance with the equipment production time-schedule.   

JSC “Mechanical Engineering Division-technology” manufactures two reactor plants with internals, a reactor cover and an upper unit, and two sets of steam generators for two units of Rooppur NPP.  

 “It is not just a business project. It is a project of two friendly countries. In the spirit of this friendly cooperation the project is progressing”, the Minister of Science and Technology of the People’s Republic of Bangladesh Yeafesh Osman said.

Rooppur NPP is designed and manufactured according to the Russian design. The NPP will consist of two units with VVER reactors, the life time of which is 60 years, in addition it is possible to extend it by 20 years. The power of each unit will make up 1200 МW. The first NPP unit will be put into operation in 2023 году, and a second one in 2024. JSC “Mechanical Engineering Division-technology” will manufacture reactors and steam generator sets for two units.
