A total of nine podium places were secured across 3x3 Basketball, 3x3 Wheelchair Basketball, Swimming, and Athletics – comprising two gold, five silver, and two bronze medals.

In 3x3 Basketball, alum duo Jamell Anderson and Evan Walshe won a glorious gold in the Men's event. In a tense and cagey final versus Australia, Anderson and Walshe battled hard to drag Team England to a 19-17 victory to become Commonwealth Champions.

In the same competition, Kyle Jimenez – a former scholar and Loughborough College learner – won a hard-fought bronze as his Scotland side defeated New Zealand, 18-16.

There was further gold-medal success for former Loughborough Lightning player Lucy Robinson, who helped Team England to the Women’s 3x3 Wheelchair Basketball title by beating Scotland 18-10.

Yet more medals came Loughborough’s way as university-linked pair Robyn Love and Kayli English were in the Scotland side that claimed silver.

Over in the Men’s 3x3 Wheelchair Basketball, alum Thomas Harvey also won silver as Team England were edged out 19-13 by Australia.

In swimming, alum Daniel Wiffen won a fine silver in the Men’s 1500m Freestyle final for Northern Ireland. Wiffen, who also won the silver in the same event at Birmingham 2022, took control of second place and looked sure of the podium from the early stages.

The Men’s 4x100m Medley team also won silver with Loughborough-linked Adam Ramsay-Peaty, Luke Greenbank (heats), and Gregory Butler (heats) representing Team England. It was a fitting way to close out the swimming action in Glasgow with more medals coming back to the East Midlands region.

The University’s track and field athletes also delivered on a frantic night in Glasgow.

University-based Jade O’Dowda won a gutsy silver medal for Team England in the Women’s Heptathlon, finishing with 6278 points, to upgrade her bronze medal from four years ago at Birmingham.

To complete a dream night for Loughborough, England’s Kevin Santos also hit the podium in the Men’s 100m T47 final, clocking a season’s best 10.85 seconds to win bronze.
