SUFFOLK, VA – A Virginia man’s craving for a hot dog sent him into a Suffolk 7-Eleven, where a spur-of-the-moment scratch-off purchase transformed an ordinary food stop into a $100K lottery win.
The Suffolk resident stopped at the 7-Eleven at 2317 Holland Road because he was hungry and wanted a hot dog, according to the Virginia Lottery.
While inside, he decided to purchase several Lottery scratch-off tickets.
Among them was a Bonus Spin Crossword ticket.
That ticket carried one of the game’s $100,000 top prizes.
The man chose to claim his winnings anonymously. Virginia law permits Lottery winners to remain anonymous, and the Virginia Lottery does not publicly disclose the identities of winners who make that choice.
The winner told Lottery officials that he plans to save the money.
Bonus Spin Crossword, game No. 2273, offers prizes ranging from $5 to $100,000.
The odds of winning a $100,000 top prize are 1 in 1,224,000, while the overall odds of winning any prize are 1 in 3.83.
The Suffolk man’s ticket was the fourth top-prize winner claimed in the game.
Two $100,000 top prizes remain unclaimed, according to the Virginia Lottery.
Lottery profits in Virginia are directed to K-12 education.
Suffolk received more than $12.4 million in Virginia Lottery funding for K-12 education during the last fiscal year.
Across Virginia, the Lottery generated more than $914 million for K-12 education during Fiscal Year 2026, accounting for approximately 10% of the state’s total K-12 school budget.
