As the Trump administration moves to reduce the number of recommended vaccines for children, New York lawmakers are taking steps to maintain state control over immunization standards.

A bill recently approved in Albany would allow state health officials to set their own vaccine guidelines, even if federal recommendations change.

Supporters say the measure is aimed at protecting public health and ensuring consistent access to vaccines for children.

State Health Commissioner Dr. James McDonald joined “Mornings On 1” on Monday to discuss the legislation and what it could mean for families across New York.
