Дата публикации: 17-08-2026 12:21:52

Philadelphia released photos of the suspect in the murder of Alhassane Barry, a Philadelphia police officer who was shot and killed while off-duty at an after-hours lounge in Southwest Philadelphia.
The suspect is described as a thin or medium-built man standing 6-feet-tall with a dark complexion and medium to bushy cropped hair. Police believe the man is in his mid-to-late 20s. He was last seen wearing a black hooded jacket, black pants, a light blue surgical mask and black sneaker-style boots, police said.
He also had a long key chain hanging from the back of his pants and was wearing a large wristwatch, according to investigators.
On Monday, Aug. 17, police released photos of the suspect in the murder of off-duty Philadelphia Police Officer Alhassane Barry.
The photos were released after family, police and community members gathered to mourn Officer Barry.
Barry, 29, was one of two men shot multiple times near 73rd Street and Elmwood Avenue just before 4 a.m. Sunday, Aug. 16, 2026, police said. He was taken to a nearby hospital, where he later died from his injuries.
A 35-year-old man was also shot multiple times and remains hospitalized, according to police.
A viewing for Barry was held Monday at the Islamic Center of Philadelphia, a little more than a quarter-mile from where the shooting happened. A prayer service was scheduled to follow.
The quick timeline between Barry’s death and funeral is rooted in Islamic teachings and emphasizes returning the body to the earth.
The president of the Guinean Association of Delaware Valley spoke with NBC10 ahead of the services and said it was a sad day not only for Barry’s family, but for the entire community.
After the funeral, Barry’s family pleaded for an end to gun violence following his death.
“This gun violence. We want this to stop. They have to know, it’s them dying too because they’re killing each other. So, stop it please,” Barry’s mother, Aissatou Bah, said.
“My brother is a really friendly person. He’s really sweet and he’s a generous, giving person,” Idiatou Barry shared.
Surveillance video obtained by NBC10 showed a marked Philadelphia police vehicle driving near the area around 3:30 a.m. Sunday. Roughly 10 seconds later, someone is seen leaving what officials described as an after-hours lounge before a fight breaks out.
Shots are then fired and people are seen running from the area.
Police said they recovered a gun and were reviewing surveillance video as part of their investigation. It was unclear whose gun investigators recovered.
No one was in custody in connection with the shooting. Police said the suspect who they released photos of was spotted walking to the location of the shooting from the area of 73rd Street and Buist Avenue. They also said he fled on foot southbound on 73rd Street from Buist Avenue after the shooting.
According to the Philadelphia Department of Licenses and Inspections, the property has a history of violations dating back to at least 2021, including a violation for not having the proper permit for an after-hours smoke lounge.
Documents also showed the building was labeled a “nuisance property” in November 2025 and again in January 2026.
A neighbor told NBC10 that the business had operated for several years and repeatedly prompted complaints.
“It’s been open for about, maybe, like, five or six years. And it’s always been a nuisance complaint. We’ve complained about it a lot of times because you can hear the music,” the neighbor said.
NBC10 is still trying to identify the building’s owner to speak with them and learn their side of the story.
However, someone who said they had been to the lounge before said that it was a place to have drinks and party.
“Just an after-hours spot; people go there late at night, get a couple drinks, party a little bit. That’s about it,” the person, who did not want to be identified, said.
Barry had worked in the Philadelphia Police Department’s 12th District and had two years of service.
“We continue to ask the community for their prayers. We will continue to pray for his family. Fortunately, they were at his bedside. But we are here now to support the family, support the men and women he worked with in the 12th District. These are very difficult moments for us,” Philadelphia Police Commissioner Kevin Bethel said during a press conference.
Philadelphia Mayor Cherelle Parker also released a statement on Sunday that expressed her remorse for the officer’s death and urged anyone with useful information to come forward in the investigation.
“Any loss to gun violence significantly impacts us all. We will never stop working to make Philadelphia a safer city,” she said.
Anyone with any information on the incident or the suspect is urged to contact the Philadelphia Police Department at 215-686-TIPS (8477) or anonymously online here.
