Bishop’s Stortford and District Angling Society reeled in more than £500 for the town’s Breathe Easy Group - £200 more than last year.

Once again, the Pig Lane fishing club adopted the organisation, which is affiliated to the British Lung Foundation, as the beneficiary of its annual competition on Saturday, August 8.

The event also included a raffle in aid of Breathe Easy, and the winning tickets were drawn by the mayor of Bishop’s Stortford, Cllr Martin Adams.

Group spokeswoman Sheena Dwerryhouse said: “The weather was very hot, but the club’s members enjoyed their competition. We very much appreciate the support shown to our group.”

Last Thursday (August 13) the Bishop’s Stortford branch of the Saffron Building Society in Market Square hosted a promotional event for the group.

Sheena said: “The staff were very helpful and friendly. We promoted the benefits of joining our Breathe Easy Group. Leaflets and other information were available for the public to take away - we even had colourful balloons for the younger members of our community.”
