The dementia bus isn’t just about learning facts – it’s about experiencing dementia from another person’s perspective.

Care provider Dave Fedines-Bassett is determined to drive forward understanding of dementia in Bishop’s Stortford.

The boss of At Home Instead East Herts and Uttlesford said: “It is really important that people understand what our loved ones go through every single day when they are living with dementia.

“As our ageing population continues to grow, more families will be affected by dementia.”

To further that understanding, At Home Instead, the sponsor of Carer of the Year at the Indies Community Awards, is bringing the Dementia Bus to South Mill Arts in Bishop’s Stortford on Monday, August 24.

The immersive experience gives participants a safe insight into the everyday challenges faced by people living with dementia. By using specially designed sensory equipment and realistic scenarios, the Dementia Bus helps people understand how changes to sight, hearing, touch and mobility can affect life.

After taking part, 95% of people changed the way they support those living with dementia; 97% said their understanding of dementia improved and 100% felt more confident in providing better care.

Each year, more than 200,000 people across the UK take part, including NHS staff, care professionals, businesses, family carers and community groups.

There will be two Dementia Bus sessions at South Mill Arts from 10am to 1pm and 1.30pm to 4.30pm.
