Craig McLachlan stunned fans when he played a surprise gig at a Sydney pub recently.

The 58-year-old actor and performer sang some of his own tunes in a solo set.

He then joined country singer Andy Penkow as a back-up guitarist for his headline show in the trendy inner-city venue.

And now the Daily Telegraph reports that McLachlan is set to tour with Penkow who was recently nominated for a Golden Guitar.

The former Neighbours star later shared video to his X feed of himself sitting on stage performing with Penkow.

According to the report the pair will be doing shows in Queensland and Victoria in the coming weeks.

McLachlan told the publication the duo will next be playing in Dubbo later this month, with other towns in NSW to follow.

The former Neighbours star said he will be performing covers, his hit Mona as well as some new tunes.

He said the song he has written recently, 'talk about things that were never reported in the media, things that can be powerfully communicated through art.'

It comes after the Logie winner revealed his appearance in last year's season of SAS Australia helped him overcome 'extreme social anxiety'.

The star revealed he had trouble 'trusting people' while speaking on the Sunday Telegraph, saying he had 'sustained trauma' after a series of assault charges saw him found not guilty.

'For me, having experienced sustained trauma over a period of too many years, being with these wonderful people rekindled something deep inside me,' McLachlan said of starring on the show.

McLachlan, was charged with assault and indecent assault over complaints from female co-stars in a stage production of the Rocky Horror Picture Show in Melbourne in 2014, during which he played the role of Frank-N-Furter.

He strongly denied the allegations against him. 

During the case, McLachlan endured months of scrutiny which saw him and his partner Vanessa Scammell forced to make their way through media packs outside of a Melbourne court.
