Does your life feel like a wreck? Mine does at times, and I wanted a blanket that would reflect my mood and give my mind quiet time to process my feelings. This is the Study of Therapy Crochet Blanket pattern.

Appropriately, I chose Bernat Blanket Patchwork, as my life feels compartmentalized, with issues jumbled together, not always cohesively. I found myself processing my joys, fears, worries and nonsense that is banging around in my head.

I created this for my own yarn therapy. In the end, I found myself a plush, cozy blanket, reflective of my moment in time.

In This Project Flat crochet study of textures with gray, blue and white nautical theme stitchwork.Crochet Study of Stitch Therapy Blanket Pattern

Abbreviations
  • Approx = Approximate(ly)

The cluster stitches are always crocheted on the wrong side as they naturally pop out the opposite side of the work, in this case, the right side.

3rd row: Ch 1. 1 sc in each dc across. Turn. 80 sc.

4th row: Ch 3. Cross st across. 1 dc in last sc. Turn. 39 cross sts and 2 dc.

5th row: Ch 1. 1 sc in each dc across. Turn. 80 sc.

6th row: Ch 3. 1 dc in next sc. 1 cluster in next sc. *1 dc in next 2 sc, 1 cluster in next sc. Rep across. 1 dc in last 2 sc. Turn. 26 clusters and 54 dc.

7th row: Ch 1. 1 sc in each st across. Turn. 80 sc.

8th row: Ch 3. Cross st across. 1 dc in last sc. Turn. 39 cross sts and 2 dc.

9th row: Ch 1. 1 sc in each dc across. Turn. 80 sc.

10th row: Ch 3. 1 dc in each sc across. Turn. 80 dc.

Rep 3rd to 10th row, 8 more times.

Last row: Ch 1. 1 sc in each dc across. Fasten off.

Border

The border is simple, and you will change hook sizes on the last round of the border. Also, the stitch count is not important as long as the blanket lays flat.

1st rnd: With B and RS facing, attach with sl st to any corner. Ch 1. 2 sc in same corner. Evenly sc across to the next corner. *Place 3 sc in corner. Evenly sc across to next corner. Rep from * around. 1 sc in beg corner. Join with sl st to beg sc.

2nd to 4th rnd: Ch 1. 2 sc in corner sc. 1 sc in each st to next corner. *3 sc in corner st. 1 sc in each st to next corner. Rep from * around. 1 sc in same beg st. Join with sl st to beg sc.

Change hook size to 10 mm / N/P. Slip stitch edging can buckle by being too tight, to eliminate that, an increased size of the crochet hook will solve that problem.

5th rnd: Sl st in each st around. Join with an invisible join. Fasten off.

Use the Surface overlay finishing technique to achieve a professional look.
