A member of the Lorraine team left viewers divided on Monday when she revealed her dramatic four-stone weight loss after taking Mounjaro.

Claer Barrett, 45, the show's financial advisor, explained that she turned to the divisive weight loss method in November after more conventional weight loss approaches that had worked when she was younger proved to be ineffective.

Appearing alongside Dr Hilary to discuss the jab, she said: 'I was obese. I had a body mass index of 37, which was far too high. Anything 30 or over you're in the danger zone for diabetes

'I wasn't pre-diabetic, but that was something I was very worried about.'

She added: 'I had a rogue high blood pressure reading when I was under a lot of stress at work, and it just made me think. I write about longevity, about retirement, about healthy life expectancy.

'I took a calculated risk, you might say, I knew there were side effects to these drugs. I had various chats with Dr Hilary, but I also made a beeline to my own GP.'

Claer Barrett, 45, the show's financial advisor, left Lorraine viewers divided on Monday when she revealed her dramatic four-stone weight loss after taking Mounjaro

She explained that she turned to the controversial weight loss method in November after more conventional weight loss methods that had worked when she was younger were ineffective

Claer said she 'totally overhauled' her diet and exercise habits while taking the drug and advised anyone considering weight loss should speak to their GP first.

While she admits she was 'fully prepared' to have negative side effects, like feeling sick and diarrhoea, the main effect of the drug was that it left Claer not feeling hungry and thinking about food all the time.

Dr Hilary stressed: 'The jabs aren't a miracle cure on their own. Unless you change your lifestyle whilst you're on them - you're only going to put the weight back on when you stop taking the medication.'

The segment followed the news that the price of the drug, manufactured by Eli Lilly, would be increasing by a staggering 170% in the UK from September 1.

But following the segment, viewers on social media were divided, with some claiming that the show was misrepresenting what the drug does.

They wrote: 'Can you please acknowledge that Mounjaro (tirzepatide) is not actually "a weightloss jab"? It is actually in fact a medication for managing Type 2 Diabetes (T2D) in adults.';

'@lorraine just want to correct you! You make the jabs sound like they are magical! They are not! I too have lost 4 stone by jabbing myself.

'BUT, I also have to join WW and I count everything I eat every day. The jab helps by making me fuller quicker, so my portions are smaller.'

Following the segment, viewers on social media were divided, with some claiming that the show was misrepresenting what the drug does and others claiming that it was not a topic worth discussing on daytime television

Claer, pictured before her weight loss, said she 'totally overhauled' her diet and exercising habits while taking the drug and advised anyone considering weight loss should speak to their GP first

Other viewers said that it was a subject that simply shouldn't have been discussed, writing: 'Anyone else sick to death hearing about mounjaro etc, who cares how you lose weight, it's nobody's business, it’s like the Covid jab all over again.';

'If you have to change your lifestyle, eat healthy and exercise, why bother with drug, you'll lose weight anyway.'

The NHS' website says that the drug can be used for weight loss if it is deemed suitable by a medical professional - but stressed that other lifestyle changes are required for it to work.

NHS England states: 'National Institute for Health and Care Excellence (NICE) recommends tirzepatide (Mounjaro®) for the management of obesity for certain patients.'

'Tirzepatide (also called Mounjaro®) is a weight loss medicine that makes you feel fuller for longer and therefore less hungry.

'It comes in the form of an injection which you inject yourself, once a week. Your doctor or nurse will show you how to use it.'

The health body adds: 'If tirzepatide (Mounjaro®) is recommended, you will need to eat a balanced, reduced calorie diet and take part in physical activity regularly whilst taking the medicine.'

A spokesperson for Eli Lilly said: 'We are working with private providers on commercial arrangements to maintain affordability and expect these to be passed on to patients when the change is effective on September 1.'

Lorraine airs weekdays on ITV1 from 9:30am and is available to stream on ITVX.
