Team GB star Kadeena Cox has revealed she has been accused of 'faking' her disability.

Cox is a four-time Paralympic champion, having struck gold in athletics and cycling in 2016, before winning two more cycling events at the delayed Tokyo Games five years later.

But she has now opened up on the negative reactions she has received from some people who do not acknowledge her disability.

Cox was diagnosed with multiple sclerosis (MS) after suffering a stroke in 2014. MS affects the brain and nerves, but Cox is still able to post joyful videos on social media of herself dancing to music. The 33-year-old believes she is treated differently from other disabled people due to her less visible condition.

'As someone living with MS, I get people saying I shouldn't be parking in a blue badge spot," said Cox, as quoted by the BBC.

Cox is looking to add to her tally of gold medals in Paris, but has admitted hurtful comments online have affected her mental health

'I get people who don't want to give up the priority seat on the train or the bus for me. I get people on social media saying "that Kadeena Cox can't be disabled, I don't believe it" or people saying you are faking it and taking money from the DWP (Department for Work and Pensions).

'It's people and their ignorant or uneducated selves making comments and passing judgement.'

Cox has vowed to continue raising awareness for people in a similar position to her, but admits her mental health has been affected by the hurtful comments she has received.

'I struggle with an eating disorder that I've openly spoke about so that's one challenge,' she added. 'It really makes you question your life sometimes.

'Now I've got this disability, my mental health is struggling because people are commenting on my disability and you just feel like you're fighting a losing battle.

'There are some days when I'm just like "What am I fighting for?" But the reality is I'm fighting for all those people that are in this position and feel like there's nothing to fight for.'

Cox is competing in Paris this week as she looks to add to her tally of gold medals.
