Geely Auto UK has confirmed that the Starray EM-i Super Hybrid PHEV will arrive in UK showrooms next month with an 84-mile electric range and pricing from £29,990 OTR. Built on Geely’s GEA intelligent new energy architecture, the five-seat SUV has been designed and engineered as a plug-in hybrid from the outset, combining a 1.5-litre petrol engine with an electric drive system and a choice of two lithium iron phosphate (LFP) battery packs.

The larger 29.8kWh pack delivers up to 84 miles of electric-only range (WLTP), while the 18.4kWh version provides 51 miles. The system produces a combined 193kW and 262Nm through a compact 1DHT automatic transmission driving the front wheels, taking the vehicle from 0–62mph in 8.0 seconds. Fuel efficiency is quoted at 2.4L/100km and 54g/km CO₂ for the smaller battery version, and 1.4L/100km with 32g/km CO₂ for the larger pack.

The petrol engine develops 73kW and 125Nm and has been engineered for high efficiency using low-friction components, variable oil and water pumps, and a high-tumble combustion process. The electric motor produces 160kW and 262Nm and uses flat-pin copper windings to improve space utilisation and minimise energy losses. Both battery packs use LFP cell chemistry, avoiding nickel and cobalt while enhancing safety through more than 100 mechanical and thermal stress tests.

DC fast charging peaks at 60kW on the larger battery pack, enabling a 30–80% recharge in 16 minutes, while the 18.4kWh version supports 30kW DC for a 20-minute top-up. A 7kW AC charge completes 25–100% in between three and five hours, depending on battery size. Geely’s partnership with UK firm Andersen EV provides co-branded wallboxes featuring locally made, slimline designs with a seven-year warranty.

Geely Auto UK collaborated with Lotus Engineering on chassis and dynamics development, with the Starray EM-i undergoing evaluation on UK roads and test tracks to refine ride and handling for local conditions. The model joins the all-electric EX5 in Geely’s growing UK portfolio and will be supported by an eight-year, 125,000-mile warranty covering both the vehicle and battery.
