Broadway‘s Ragtime went out on a huge note Sunday, breaking its own box office record to become the highest grossing Broadway show in the history of Lincoln Center Theater. The musical revival, directed by Lincoln Center Theater’s artistic director Lear deBessonet, grossed a whooping $1,963,666 for its final eight performances.

Only the 27 productions running during the week ending August 16, only Hamilton‘s box office outdid Ragtime, with the former taking in $2,123,135. The overwhelming majority of the 27 shows saw downward shifts during the week as Broadway gets hit by the usual August doldrums. (Buena Vista Social Club and The Rocky Horror Show also saw some upturns, with the former grossing $701,983 and the latter $829,118.

Ragtime‘s closing night performance cast included Tony Award winner Joshua Henry, Tony Award winner Caissie Levy, Tony Award winner Brandon Uranowitz, Nicholas Barrón, Ben Davis, Nichelle Lewis, Julie Benko, John Clay III, Rodd Cyrus, Marina Kondo, Jackson Parker Gill, Aerina DeBoer and Tabitha Lawing.

Ragtime, winner of the 2026 Tony Award for best musical revival, and Hamilton both were sell-outs, with newcomer Paranormal Activity joining that exclusive club last week. Playing its first four previews, the Olivier-nominated British spook show written by Levi Holloway (Grey House) and directed by Felix Barrett (Sleep No More) was at 100% of capacity at the August Wilson, grossing $422,257.

Paranormal Activity, inspired by the film franchise, officially opens Tuesday, August 25, for a limited 20-week-run.

In all, the 27 shows grossed a total $27,003,040 for the week ending August 16, an overall drop of 20% from the previous week and down about 9% from last season at this time. Attendance was 226,229, down 12% from the previous week and 8% year to year.

In the 12th week of the 2026-27 season, Broadway has grossed season-to-date $412,444,622, down about 5% from last year at this time, with total attendance of 3,347,484 holding steady.
