Broadway proved little match for fireworks last week, as every one of the 32 productions took the usual Fourth of July holiday hit at the box office. In all, the total receipts of $29,331,200 were down 20% from the previous week.

Granted, there were three fewer shows on the boards (Death Becomes Her, Giant and The Fear of 13 had exited the previous week), but all of the shows that remained up and running reported dips, some more significant than others, no doubt a result of Saturday night getting swallowed by Macy’s annual fireworks display.

Overall attendance for the week ending July 5 was 258,418, an 11% drop from the previous week.

Among the shows posting the biggest drops in grosses, if not always attendance, were Cats: The Jellicle Ball, down $202,514 to $691,071; Joe Turner’s Come and Gone, down $141,196 to $817,232; Operation Mincemeat, $139,707 to $522,687; Proof, $112,571 to $565,862; Ragtime, $112,957 to $1,412,810; Schmigadoon!, $220,793 to $908,342; Stranger Things: The First Shadow, $161,365 to $686,010; The Lost Boys, $268,670 to $1,100,166; The Outsiders, $146,196 to $776,473; The Rocky Horror Show, $279,564 to $935,662; and Wicked, $200,966 to $1,007,154.

Even Oh, Mary! was down a bit — $43,746 to$1,533,238 — but the chance to see Maya Rudolph in her final week in the title role kept the Lyceum packed. (HacksMeg Stalter now stars.)

Also making her exit was Mariska Hargitay in Every Brilliant Thing, filling the seats at the Hudson. A pre-planned seven-performance week – one fewer than the usual eight – took the expected $227,700 bite out of the $1,121,871 gross. (Tracee Ellis Ross takes over the role.)

Other shows playing scheduled seven performance weeks were Death of a Salesman, doing its usual sell-out business for a gross of $1,857,099, and Just In Time, dropping $235,414 from its previous eight-performance week to $491,785.

Other sell-outs for the week were Hamilton and Ragtime, with MJ at 99%, and Hadestown and Schmigadoon! both at 97%.

On the lower end, with attendance at 70% of capacity or less, were & Juliet, Chicago, Moulin Rouge!, Six, Stranger Things: The First Shadow, The Great Gatsby and Two Strangers (Carry A Cake Across New York). Titanique was at 76%.

In the 6th week of the 2026-27 season, Broadway has grossed $219,079,486, down about 10% from last year at this time, with total attendance of 1,798,809 down 4%.
