The adaptation of adjusting the hook-sizing for personal tension isn't as frustrating, and corrections are within a minute or two, not five minutes. I've not completed five squares, and it's gotten much easier. The old saying is "practice makes perfect".

Product Analysis

The Red Heart All In One Quilt Motif yarn is designed to create a 9.5" x 9.5" square motif. Coloured in a way that, when puzzled together, can form variations of quilt-like squares, but in crochet, of course.

Each ball, which is 8.8 oz/250 g, 440 yds/402 m, can do 5 motifs without having to change the colour strands each time. The colouring isn't balanced in the square, which creates an optical illusion of a well-thought-out quilt concept.

This is 100% acrylic long-lasting- yarn with the texture and look of Red Heart Super Saver yarn. You can mix other Super Saver versions to colour mix it up like the Christmas Quilt.

You can decide a layout, including placing additional corner-to-corner motifs between the sections like the Christmas Quilt Version below.

Connections with whip stitching can be really ugly, especially when the colour isn't used in the connection spot. In the Christmas Blanket, they used red to connect the squares together using red in the green sections. It stands out like a sore thumb and sets off my OCD.

In remembering corner to corner can be done as a join-as-you-go concept, I thought the following:

• Do we really need to sew?
• Why can't we figure out how to join the squares so the colour doesn't bleed?

Avoid NASTY Sewing Connections

The Challenge of Connections All In One Motif Yarn Gauge and Adapting in Real Time

We can connect like the above tutorial, but with every millimetre being factored into the transition of the colouring, adjusting the crochet hook sizing to add in a couple other connections has to be done. It's not rocket science; it's common sense.

Knowing we have to adjust the hook size for the transitions, reducing the crochet hook in certain areas provides extra yarn for the connections to happen. I made it work and can show you how.

Like the Christmas Quilt Blanket above, the entire blanket can be done without sewing anything. For solid colours like the green and white used, you don't need to worry about yarn transitions; it's just the quilt squares that need extra attention.

I felt that learning a connection is still faster than sewing the blanket together and looks more prize-worthy.

To Start... Make Your First Square

The video tutorial below will show you how to make 1 square. You will see me adjusting the hooks in real time to make the transitions hit.

It's a long tutorial, but it will show how to handle the gauge size by changing your hook sizes. I find it difficult to change my gauge with my well-established hook-holding technique; it's easier to change the hook size.

How To Make Yarn Longer As Transition is Too Quick

If the transition is happening too quickly and the yarn is changing before you get there, watch below to learn how to extend the yarn without ripping everything apart.

How to Make Yarn Shorter As the Transition is Too Slow

You will use this technique if you are getting to the transition and still have colour to crochet, but the transition should have happened already. Watch how to adjust without ripping the project apart.

Sewing Motifs Together

If you prefer to sew your motifs together, I recommend the whip stitch, but ensure you use the same colour as the connection. Don't use something like white to connect items if there is no white beside the connection.

The sewing advice in the tutorial below was done for a stitch-along. See in the tutorial what happens when the colours don't match properly, and you can clearly see the join when a colour isn't at the connection point.

It takes longer to sew together, but it's the difference between a blue ribbon-worthy finished project versus the alternative honourable mention.
