On warm summer evenings along the streets of Sauble Beach, where the glow of the setting sun meets the hum of finely tuned engines, something remarkable has taken root.

What began as a modest gathering of car enthusiasts has evolved into one of the region’s most anticipated weekly events—blending nostalgia, community spirit, and charitable purpose into a vibrant celebration of “sun, sand, and classy cars.” Driven by passionate volunteers and fueled by a steady stream of visitors, the Sauble Beach Sunset Cruisers car show has become far more than a showcase of vehicles; it is a dynamic force that brings people together, supports local causes, and creates lasting memories for all who experience it.

The Sauble Beach Sunset Cruisers’ shows are organized by a large group of dedicated local people who wish to promote the region through their passion for motor vehicles that are historic, modified and of special interest. These weekly events are held primarily as a fundraising opportunity for the Bruce Peninsula Hospitals Foundation (Brightshores Health Services). Local businesses have generously backed the program through their sponsorships.

“Sauble Beach has all the marbles. Sun, sand, and classy cars,” said Morley Lymburner, planner and coordinator of the weekly events. “But it has one other component. A huge turnover of vacationers and visitors.” Each week this means the show has an entirely new audience that marvels at the array of vehicles on display.

Visitor feedback over the years highlights the show’s impact. Many describe it as a highlight of their vacation, praising both the vehicles and the welcoming atmosphere. Comments such as “Friendly people who own awesome cars!” and “A wonderful surprise for our whole family” are common.

Others have said this Sauble event is viewed as a wonderful addition to their vacation. Many have pointed out these car owners are excellent ambassadors for the region. One enthusiastic visitor said, “we could not believe such a wonderful car show. It was such a surprise for our whole family. Our son wanted a selfie in front of every car.”

Sauble merchants viewed the show as a support to the downtown merchants. One merchant pointed out he noticed a definite increase in store traffic every Tuesday. “The car show is a great way for vacationers to find our shop,” he said. “We have noticed an increase in foot traffic for days after the event. You guys have worked so hard to pull this off and we benefit from your efforts. Just keep it up.”

One cottager made a rather poignant note. “What you are doing helps build memories. And isn’t that what Sauble is all about?”

Indeed that is what this entire region is all about. Building memories for our visitors can have long-reaching benefits economically. This has become far more than just a social gathering of car enthusiasts. It can be a building block for much more. It can be a catalyst for future ideas and creative marketing of the region. Young people take away fond memories and a strong feeling they must return. They tell friends and relatives, grow up and have families of their own and engender that same eagerness to return.

Indeed! The power of building memories… one old car at a time.
