To the Editor The provocative findings of Lassen et al, showing that an elevated aldosterone to renin ratio (ARR) is independently associated with an increased risk of atrial fibrillation and ischemic stroke in older adults, illustrate the broad toxicity of aldosterone for the cardiovascular system. The authors conclude that “treatment efforts targeting aldosterone may improve cardiovascular outcomes even in the absence of overt, clinically recognized primary aldosteronism.”
