MINSK, 23 August (BelTA) - Belarusian Viktar Shchohaleu has won two medals at the 2026 EWF European Youth & U15 Weightlifting Championships in Kosovo, BelTA has learned.

The Belarusian athlete became a medalist in the U18 -65 kg. After the snatch, Shchohaleu was in fourth place with a result of 115kg; in the clean and jerk, Viktar made a successful attempt at 142kg. This earned him a small bronze medal in this exercise and third place overall (257 kg) among 11 athletes. The top two spots in the total were taken by Georgians Giorgi Kinkladze (266) and Shota Kakabadze (260).

On 23 August Veranika Dzehtsiarenka of Belarus rounded out the top five in the women's -57kg category. After four days of the championships, Team Belarus has 7 medals (0-2-5). Darya Novikava (U18, -45kg) became a two-time silver medalist. Aliaksandra Kruk and Milana Banchuk claimed bronze medals (both U15, -57kg).

In total, 2026 EWF European Youth & U15 Weightlifting Championships have brought together more than 350 young athletes from 38 countries. The continental tournament will conclude on 27 August.
