From ultra-luxurious city boutiques to Alpine resorts with views to die for, the world's most extraordinary hotels have been revealed.

The famed Michelin Guide has unveiled its 2026 Global Michelin Keys Selection, recognising 2,832 hotels around the world for offering truly unparalleled stays - the hotel equivalent of its 'stars' for restaurants. 

Michelin inspectors, who independently assess hotels to identify those delivering exceptional experiences, have revealed the list of top spots.

Crowning the 'crème de la crème' of hotels, the Michelin Key is the Guide's distinction for outstanding hotels.

Hotels can receive one, two or three Michelin Keys, denoting a 'very special stay', an 'exceptional stay' and an 'extraordinary stay' respectively.

This year, 18 new three-key properties have been revealed, the highest distinction possible – and eight are in Europe. Here's a rundown of the top choices... 

The Opening of the Year Award celebrates Airelles Palladio Venice in Venice, Italy, the first Airelles property outside of France and a new arrival overlooking the Giudecca Canal. 

It also scoops up the prestigious Three-Key Award. 

Overlooking St. Mark’s Square, the building has been favoured by Venetian nobility since the 15th century.

'Our rooms and suites, bathed in the enchanting light of Venice, blend timeless elegance with modern comfort,' the hotel explains. 

'Nestled between picturesque canals and hidden gardens, they offer lagoon views, intimate living spaces, and sumptuous bedding, creating a peaceful retreat for a romantic escape or a memorable family stay.' 

Up next in Italy is Collegio alla Querce, part of the Auberge Collection.

Florence is ideal for a romantic getaway or city break, known for its lavish offerings – and the Collegio alla Querce is perhaps the best of all.

The quiet interior gardens provide a welcome break from the busy city, and with resplendent views of the Duomo di Firenze and the hills of Tuscany, it's an ideal spot from which to explore the region.

It also has 83 rooms, an original chapel and theatre, two restaurants, and a signature bar that was once a headmaster's office – so you're unlikely to get bored whiling away the days in this extraordinary spot.

Italian highlights include Borgo Santandrea on the Amalfi Coast, promoted to three keys this year.

Perched on a dramatic cliff overlooking the fishing village of Conca dei Marini, it is one of the coast’s most breathtaking locations.

There are 31 rooms and 21 suites, some with infinity pools and terraces, and three beautifully positioned restaurants and a private beach.

While prices start at £719 per room per night, the premium suite pool room – which boasts a private heated infinity plunge pool – can cost upwards of £6,000 per night.

A charming seaside village, Portofino has remained an enduring favourite among the jet-set for over a century – and Splendido is its crown jewel.

Opened in 1902, this hotel has welcomed icons such as Ava Gardner, Clark Gable, Elizabeth Taylor, Denzel Washington, Madonna and Beyoncé. 

Once a 16th-century Benedictine monastery, Splendido has been beautifully updated to cater to modern tastes. And in addition to its beautiful 53 rooms, the property features a stunning outdoor pool for guests to take refuge from the heat, as well as a Dior Spa.

Eze is among the most stunning spots on the French Riviera, and few hotels can compare with the hilltop setting of Château de la Chèvre d'Or.

It has views of the Mediterranean coastline, hidden rooms in the medieval village and a Michelin-starred restaurant, too.

'Our stay at this hotel was nothing short of extraordinary. From the very first moment, we felt genuinely welcomed and cared for in a way that is incredibly rare to find nowadays,' one recent review read.

Another said: 'The most beautiful setting and hotel I have ever stayed in. The colours, the smells, the food, the view, everything was such a privilege and just the most extraordinary place.' 

Le Couvent des Minimes in Mane, France, is next: a serene countryside hotel with immaculate gardens and grounds about which guests can stroll and luxuriate.

The hotel explains its philosophy: 'In this unique and unspoilt Provençal setting, discover how sheer contentment and total wellbeing is a way of life.'

'This hotel was one of my favourite stays in the past few years. The grounds are truly gorgeous, the service is outstanding, and the food was excellent,' one guest wrote.

Another chimed in: 'We absolutely loved this hotel. It is the most serene place we have probably ever stayed. The minimalist design is perfectly executed and expertly combined with unique details to create visual interest.' 

This luxury hotel on the shores of Lake Geneva is the first of two hotels in Switzerland to get three-key status this year.

Dating back to the Belle Époque, this former palace boasts majestic interiors, a Guerlain Spa and top-notch service.

One guest said: 'I had the pleasure of staying at Beau-Rivage Palace Hôtel, and it was truly an unforgettable experience. From the moment I arrived, the service was impeccable - warm, attentive, and genuinely welcoming.'

A second wrote: 'Simply the best hotel we've ever stayed in. I think we can say it's one of the best five-star hotels in the world. Everything is simply perfect. The hotel is incredible. It's like staying in a palace.'

Nestled high in the Swiss Alps is the famous Kulm Hotel, a luxurious resort absolutely brimming with opulence. 

The hotel, which was founded nearly 165 years ago by Swiss business leader Johannes Badrutt, is largely credited as having played a vital role in the establishment of Alpine tourism in the region. 

There is a lot on offer at this stunning venue, including its outstanding state-of-the-art spa, seven top restaurants and a golf course.
