From chic establishments in Edinburgh to romantic dining spots everywhere from Fiji to Bath, the best restaurants in the UK – and around the world – have been revealed. 

Tripadvisor has announced the winners of its annual Travellers' Choice Awards: Best of the Best Restaurants for 2026. 

Based on first-hand reviews from millions of travellers over the last year, winners rank among the top one per cent of Tripadvisor listings.

Categories for this year's restaurant awards include fine dining, date night, casual dining and hidden gems.

A total of 12 UK restaurants and experiences have been named best in the world in this year's awards, with date night taking centre stage. 

Here's a rundown of the top spots both in the UK and globally...

Fine dining is the first major category in the awards – and the worldwide winner is Fogón Asado in Buenos Aires, Argentina, a traditional grill restaurant with tasting menus and an exclusive ambience.

Meanwhile, in second place is KOMA Singapore, a Japanese restaurant and sushi bar described as 'memorable' by one guest.

Another winner with a romantic edge is the candlelit gothic landmark on the Royal Mile, The Witchery in Edinburgh, which has been named number four in the world in the fine dining category. 

Elevating seasonal Scottish ingredients into a globally celebrated fine-dining experience, The Witchery is also number one in Europe and the UK, following its debut last year.

In second place in the UK is Bustronome London, a unique bistro located inside a double-decker bus.

In third place is Varanasi in Birmingham, an Indian restaurant with flair. 

'Stunning surroundings and some of the best Indian food we have ever had, beautifully presented,' one diner wrote of the experience here. 

As for the hidden gems category, the worldwide winner went to Tua Casa Hamburgueria E Petiscaria in Maragogi, Brazil.

This burger spot is hailed for its welcoming quarters, delicious food and excellent service.

In second place is uniquely named Sad Man's Tongue Bar & Bistro in Prague, a blend of 1950s and 1960s vibes with a modern twist. The retro style is just as raved about as the burgers on offer.

As for the UK, Bonoo Indian Tapas in London is number 13 on the world's hidden gems list, pairing vibrant, authentic Indian small plates with warm hospitality in a cosy Hampstead setting. 

It also tops the UK best list.

Saffron Kitchen & Bar in Northampton takes the silver medal, blending Indian flavours with a modern ambience – with the 'best curry of our life', one guest said.

Taking the bronze medal in third place is the White Hart Inn in Hawes, North Yorkshire.

The former 16th-century coaching inn offers a traditional bar and classic pub food, from pies to slow-cooked beef and fish and chips.

There's a clear theme among date night diners, with London Steakhouse Co. named fourth in the world, followed by Dava Steak & Seafood Restaurant in Bali, Indonesia in sixth place.

In the winning spot in the global ranking is Waitui Bar & Grill in Fiji, an oceanside dining spot overlooking the water surrounding Denarau Island.

In second place, you'll find Chalezinho Campos Do Jordão in São Paulo, Brazil. 

Expect menu items such as fondues, Italian appetizers and raclette.

In third is Santorini's Five Senses Restaurant, which specialises in Greek food.

As for the UK, following the winning steakhouse is yet another – this time in Bath. 

The Herd Steak Restaurant has been described positively, with one customer writing: 'The best steakhouse in Bath, never disappoints, the menu provides a variable plethora of choice, everything is prepared to a high standard.' 

Plus, 1863 Restaurant in the Lake District comes in at number three, boasting items such as hand-dived scallops and Cumbrian beef fillets.

In casual dining, Casa Brazilian Rodizio in York is number eight in the world, while holding onto the UK number one spot for the second year running. 

Longtime Travellers' Choice favourite Makars Gourmet Mash Bar, Edinburgh is named a number 12 in the world for 2026 and second in the UK.

In third place in the UK is Lavang Shirley, South Asian dining experience with Indian and Bangladeshi cuisine.

On the global list, the winner is Pizzeria Arrivederci, described as 'delicious' and 'welcoming' by visitors.

In second place is Tonnarello, again an Italian restaurant.

'Most Italian restaurants in Rome seem to lure a large crowd, even for lunch,' one visitor wrote. 'Tonnarello Paglia is no different. Arrive early to avoid the crowd. They don't take reservations. Sometimes there is a 40-minute wait during peak dinner hours. But it's worth the wait.'

Rounding out the top three is Metate Cabo in Cabo San Lucas, Mexico, a Michelin Bib Gourmand spot serving authentic Mexican cuisine.
