A cluster of storms could hit parts of northeast Illinois and northwest Indiana overnight Thursday and into the morning on Friday, bringing with them a potential for flash flooding, the National Weather Service warned.
The storms could hit between 3 a.m. through 11 a.m. on Friday, NWS predicted, and the main hazards expected are lightning strikes, soaking downpours and gusty winds. Stronger storms could also produce hail up to 1 inch in diameter and winds gusty enough to damage tree limbs.
“Most of the daylight hours look dry this weekend, and the humidity will be dropping off Sunday and Monday for Labor Day,” according to NBC 5 Storm Team Meteorologist Kevin Jeanes.
High heat and humidity is expected throughout the day on Friday and into Saturday, with highs in the mid to low 90s.
“It’s gonna feel like it’s in the triple digits, especially south of I-80,” Jeanes said. “Not quite as hot north of I-80, but it’s still gonna feel like it’s in the middle to upper 90s.”
There’s also another chance of storms Friday night and into Saturday morning, NWS warned.
