The outlook for the stock of HDFC Asset Management Company or HDFC AMC (₹2,378) remains neutral. It has been moving in the ₹2,200-2,900 band in the last six months. Only a break away from the current band will set a clear trend for HDFC AMC. 

Immediate support is at ₹2,313 whereas the nearest resistance is at ₹2,500. If HDFC AMC dips below ₹2,210, it can drop to ₹1,820. However, a close above ₹2,455 will lift the stock towards ₹2,760. We expect the stock to soon break out of the above-mentioned band.

F&O pointers: HDFC AMC September futures closed at ₹2,379.30 and October futures at ₹2,391.50 against the spot close of ₹2,378. The counter witnessed a rollover of nearly 67 per cent to October series, and the premium indicates rollover of long positions. 

Strategy: Consider long strangle on HDFC AMC using October contracts. This can be done by buying 2600-call and 2100-put. As these options closed at ₹13.70 and ₹6 respectively, this will cost traders ₹5,910. This will be the maximum loss and that will occur if the stock is stuck between ₹2,600 and ₹2,100.

A move above ₹2,619.70 or below ₹2,080.30 will start turning the position profitable. Hold the position for two weeks and aim for a target of ₹8,000 (based on combined position). Exit the position if the loss mounts to ₹1,000.
