Corvette owners are known for the strong bonds they form with their cars, and many of these “relationships” can go on for decades. Like a member of the family, these Corvettes become part of the owner’s identity and for many, some of their happiest moments in life were spent behind the wheel of their Corvette.
For one Corvette enthusiast, the bond with his beloved Black C1 Corvette was so strong that his family chose to make the car part of his final farewell.
A photo recently shared on Reddit captured the scene and you’ll either be creeped out over it, or you’ll nod your head in understanding. Fair warning, if you don’t want to see the photo, we recommend you click here instead.
Instead of a traditional service, this gentleman’s family honored the life he lived in a way that reflected his pride and joy he found in owning America’s Favorite Sports Car. For his final ride, he was placed with his cherished Black Corvette roadster which was adorned with a large funeral spray of flowers across the hood.
For many of us, Corvettes are more than just a vehicle to get you from Point A to B. They are milestones and friendships. Think of the memories this man had of car shows and the people he met while behind the wheel of his Corvette. The first generation Corvettes were the beginning of America’s love affair with the Corvette and its importance to him is evident in this final scene. His family understood that connection by giving him that one last ride in a machine that brought him so much joy.
We don’t know who this was, but we definitely recognize the passion. Others have done this as well including Donna Mae Mims, a Corvette Hall of Famer who also took one last ride in her 1979 Pink Corvette prior to burial. Another owner named George Swanson took it even further by being buried in his 1984 Corvette.
To his family we offer our sincere condolences. A man who loved his C1 enough to make it part of his story until the very end is someone we understand, respect, and celebrate. We honor his memory and celebrate the love he had for the Chevrolet Corvette.
