Family were only left with 'clothes on their back' after Old Colwyn blaze but community is rallying around them

A family have been left with only the "clothes on their back" after a devastating fire.

The blaze started at around 12.30pm on Monday - ripping through the property on the Peulwys estate in Old Colwyn.

Thankfully no one was killed or injured but the fire destroyed the house and tragically claimed the life of the family's pet cat.

The only positive has been the way people on the estate and the wider Old Colwyn community have responded. A collection was immediately organised at the local community centre - with clothes and other items donated.

Friend Helen Lehart has also started a GoFundme to raise money for the family. This has already seen around £3,000 donated.

Helen said: "On what should have been an ordinary day, our dear friends Jodie, Dave, and their son Alfie lost everything in a devastating house fire. Their home was completely destroyed, and tragically, they also lost their beloved cat.

"In a matter of moments, their entire world was turned upside down, leaving them with nothing but the clothes on their backs.

"We are raising funds to help this wonderful family begin the long journey of rebuilding their lives. Every donation, no matter how big or small, will go towards replacing essential clothing, household items, furniture, and everything else they need to start again.

"If you are unable to donate, please consider sharing this fundraiser with your family and friends. Your kindness, generosity, and support during this heartbreaking time will mean more than words can express.

"Thank you for helping Jodie, Dave, and Alfie take their first steps towards rebuilding their home and their future."

The blaze was tackled by five fire crews and also caused damage to a next door property. Fire investigators were at the scene again today.

Cartrefi Conwy, who manage the properties on the estate, said they were in touch with the families affected.
