Coronation Street and Emmerdale are to be cancelled next week - with a schedule shake-up set to leave fans furious.

Earlier this month, the ITV soaps debuted a new 'power hour' with revamped timeslots - and marked by crossover Corriedale.

It sees Emmerdale air at 8pm for 30 minutes, followed by Coronation Street at 8.30pm, also for 30 minutes.

However, viewers won't be getting their Weatherfield or Dales fix for two nights next week.

Both soaps have been removed from schedules and replaced with sport.

Next Tuesday, it will be the Arsenal vs Chelsea EFL Live Cup Match taking their place.

Soap fans have been left unimpressed as both Emmerdale and Corrie are affected by a schedule shake-up next week

Both soaps will be off screens in upcoming days - with sports fixtures to be shown by ITV in their place

Earlier this month, the ITV soaps debuted a new 'power hour' with revamped timeslots - and marked by crossover Corriedale

While on Thursday, ITV will show a Six Nations match between France and Ireland rather than the soaps.

Fans have been left thoroughly unimpressed with this news - and expressed as much on social media.

One wrote: 'I remember the times we used to get episodes moved to other times because of the football (even last year), but now it seems like the new standard is simply no episode at all on the football/sports days.'

Another commented: 'This is stupid. So they already cut all the extra episodes going from 6 to 5 per week.

'Now every other week it seems they lose another episode. So in 2026 how many fewer episodes will there really be compared to 2025?'

A third chimed in: 'This whole new schedule is a ploy to tear our beloved soap episodes away from us!'

While a fourth remarked: 'This is so painful. There are very few shows that I like to watch but they keep being shunted.'

Fans are sick and tired of sporting events overshadowing their favourite soaps

It comes as a much-loved Coronation Street star has quit the soap after three years on the cobbles.

Claire Sweeney joined the cast in 2023, playing Cassie Plummer, the previously believed to be dead biological mother of Tyrone Dobbs (Alan Halsall).

It has now been confirmed the 54-year-old actress is bowing out after landing a dream role.

She has been cast to play the iconic part of Miss Hannigan in the UK tour of stage musical Annie.

A Coronation Street spokesperson told The Sun: 'We wish Claire every success playing Miss Hannigan and congratulate her on being offered a role she has long wanted to play.

The soap schedule will return to normal the week beginning 9th February

Claire Sweeney has quit her role as Cassie Plummer in Coronation Street, having been starring in the ITV soap since 2023

'Cassie will be on the cobbles until the summer during which time she will continue to make her presence felt in Weatherfield leading up to a great exit storyline.'

Meanwhile, Claire reportedly informed ITV bosses last year of her decision to exit the soap after landing the role in Annie.

A source told the publication: 'Claire loves Corrie but she's always wanted to play Miss Hannigan.

'At first it was hoped she could do both but the extensive tour just made that impossible so she made the difficult decision to leave.

'She told bosses early enough that they were able to create an exciting and explosive exit storyline for her.'

Coronation Street and Emmerdale air on ITV1 and ITVX.
