Taylor Swift and Travis Kelce‘s July 3rd wedding at Madison Square Garden was broadcast as a magical, secret garden-themed celebration of pop’s biggest romance, but some attendees have since told the Daily Mail that the reality inside felt more “chaotic” and “tacky” than a storybook fairy-tale.
Chief among the wedding grumbles was the catering. According to the Daily Mail, guests were reportedly stunned to find a buffet-style dining set up at what was supposed to be the wedding of the year. “There were also people who were surprised about the food,” a source told Daily Mail. “It was not great and served buffet-style with long lines if you wanted to eat.”

Considering the wedding reportedly cost upwards of twenty million dollars, guests assumed the reception would feature a more elegant sit-down dining style rather than a buffet. The Daily Mail also reported that guests said there were long lines and wait times for the food, and the champagne ran out surprisingly early. One attendee admitted they hadn’t expected to see A-list names standing in line waiting for food, and even name-dropped Julia Roberts and Steven Spielberg among those waiting their turn.
Unfortunately, the food wasn’t the only point of friction during the Swift-Kelce reception. Guests were reportedly sorted into an A-to-D list system dictating when they were allowed to arrive at the event, with lower-tier invitees like Cara Delevigne being required to show up hours before the 5:30 pm ceremony and left with little to do since phones were confiscated at the door and food and drinks were not available until hours later. The Daily Mail also reported that a source told them only about 150 seats were available for guests during the ceremony, leaving the rest of the 1,000 attendees to stand for the duration of the wedding. The wedding ceremony, officiated by Adam Sandler, was reportedly long, with both Swift and Kelce each delivering 20-minute vows.

Decor at the reception drew mixed reactions as well. TMZ reported that the wedding had a “Wizard of Oz meets Alice in Wonderland” theme, but sources told Daily Mail, “there were loads of huge fake plastic trees all over the place, and it just looked bizarre.”
A source also shared with Daily Mail that, “When you got inside, some of the flowers, vines, and garlands were wrapped so badly around the seating that they barely camouflaged the plastic, bucket-style stadium seats. It was all quite ghastly and tacky. They had tried to cover up the fact that it was a wedding in a stadium, and that failed.”
Despite the long list of complaints, guests did enjoy highlights like surprise performances from Sir Paul McCartney and Stevie Nicks, and a raffle offering a chance to take home designer bags and a classic car. According to Daily Mail, Taylor and Travis are also working on a documentary detailing everything from the wedding planning process to the behind-the-scenes logistics, which will be sent to all attendees as a gift. Will it take more than a polished documentary to erase the memories of long buffet lines and champagne shortages? Only time will tell.
