Even though Prince Harry has just landed in the UK, his trip has already been overshadowed by royal family drama.

Ahead of his arrival in his home country, sources reported that Harry would not be staying at a royal residence. Per the BBC, Harry accepted the offer to stay in Buckingham Palace, which reportedly came directly from his father, King Charles III, but he didn’t respond in time. As a result, “he was informed on Saturday evening that he would not be able to stay there.”

“It is therefore unclear why, having formally accepted the accommodation offer, it has now been withdrawn at the last moment,” a spokesman for the Duke of Sussex told the outlet, adding that the situation was all-around “disappointing.”

Per Buckingham Palace, Harry failed to confirm his stay and initially declined the invitation. He then changed his mind, “but by then it was too late to make arrangements and to provide staffing.”

During his stay, which will now be in an undisclosed, non-royal location, Harry is expected to make public appearances to charities as well as kick off the one-year countdown for the 2027 Invictus Games, an international Paralympic-style multi-sport event founded by Harry himself.

Per the BBC, he’s expected to visit the city’s children’s hospital as well as Birmingham’s National Exhibition Centre, which will be hosting the Games.

As for a reunion with his father, chances of it happening have become more unlikely and “even more complicated.” After all, not only could Harry be bitter about his accommodation offer being withdrawn, but visiting his father is now much more complicated than it would’ve been if they’d be living under the same roof (albeit a massive palace).

Prior to the offer being withdrawn, Harry had already decided not to bring along his wife, Meghan Markle, and their kids, Princess Lilibet and Prince Archie, to the trip. That decision was largely made out of security concerns.

On July 1, the Royal and VIP Executive Committee (RAVEC) announced it would not provide full-time police protection during the Sussexes’ upcoming trip to the UK this month, Vanity Fair reported. At the time, a source revealed Harry “was devastated and close to tears.”

Now that Harry is in the UK, it seems like drama hasn’t stopped following him just yet. Luckily, it’s reportedly only going to be a five-day trip.
