ArenaNet, NC and bilibili have announced Mistbound, a free-to-play digital collectible card game set in the Guild Wars universe.

The game is officially licensed by ArenaNet, developed by NC and globally published by bilibili. It is in development for PC and mobile platforms, though a release date has not been announced.

Mistbound is positioned as the first digital card game spin-off based on Guild Wars. According to the announcement, the game will use characters, lore, art and music from the franchise while moving the series into a deckbuilding strategy format.

The main gameplay feature is a 5×3 tactical grid where players deploy cards and reposition them during matches. The companies describe this as “Dynamic Movement Gameplay,” with commanders and units able to move in response to enemy actions. The announcement also lists knockbacks, pulls, flanking opportunities and shifting offensive and defensive positioning as part of the game’s tactical system.

Players will take on the role of a commander, with iconic Guild Wars characters appearing as commanders with their own abilities and traits. Mistbound will also include a commander and profession system inspired by Guild Wars 2’s nine professions, allowing players to combine commanders with profession-based play styles.

ArenaNet studio head Colin Johanson said the team wanted to give Guild Wars players “a new way to play together” in a competitive CCG space. NC producer Hwang Sunwoo said the team wanted to put strategic complexity into the battlefield rather than making individual cards overly complex.

The announcement says Mistbound will include both single-player and multiplayer modes, but it does not give further details on those modes. It also does not disclose monetization details beyond the game being described as free-to-play.

bilibili will handle global publishing for the game. The company is also presenting community input as part of the project’s development approach, though details on future playtests or player access have not yet been confirmed.
