Forbes has released its ranking of the highest-paid players participating in the World Cup, which is being held across three countries (the United States, Canada and Mexico), for the first time in a record 16 cities.
For the first time in the game’s 96-year history, 48 teams are competing. This is also the first World Cup to feature billionaire players — Cristiano Ronaldo captaining Portugal and Lionel Messi leading Argentina to defend their title.
The 11 highest-paid players competing at the 2026 FIFA World Cup collectively earned an estimated $950 million in the 12 months leading up to the tournament, according to Forbes.

With 41-year-old Ronaldo and Messi, 38, leading with $300 million and $144 million respectively, two African players were also featured in the list.
Mohamed Salah
The “Egyptian King” is the highest-paid African player at the World Cup, raking in $55 million. Salah, whose 34th birthday is on June 15, is leading his team as they appear at the World Cup for the fourth time.
Egypt has lifted the Africa Cup of Nations cup a record seven times, but it has yet to win a World Cup match. Things could change as the team faces Belgium, Iran and New Zealand in Group G.
The winger agreed with the Reds in March to terminate his contract a year early, enabling him to sign with a new team this summer as a free transfer.
Sadio Mane
With $54 million, Mane is the second-highest-paid player at the World Cup. After not making the 2022 tournament due to a knee injury, he hopes to return Senegal to the quarterfinals for the first time in 24 years.
That will be incredible news for the country after it was stripped of the Africa Cup of Nations title because Senegalese players left the pitch in protest over a penalty kick awarded to Morocco.
The winger won the Saudi Pro League championship with Al-Nassr, but sources say that his contract with the team will expire at the end of the month.
