10-men England downed co-hosts Mexico in the World Cup Round of 16 clash at the Azteca Stadium in Mexico City on Sunday (July 5, 2026). The match was delayed by one hour due to adverse weather conditions in Mexico City, FIFA confirmed.

Jude Bellingham’s brace and a penalty from Harry Kane helped England overcome Mexico in what was an extremely competitive affair. Julián Quiñones and Raul Jimenez scored for the co-hosts. Jarrell Quansah was sent off for England.

FIFA World Cup 2026 knockout schedule

The winner of this game plays Norway on July 11, after the Vikings defeated Brazil 2-1 thanks to two goals from Erling Haaland.

    The kickoff for the World Cup round of 16 game between Mexico and England was delayed by one hour on Sunday night as a thunderstorm rolled through Estadio Azteca.

    The game was pushed to 7 pm local time from its scheduled 6 pm start.

    This is the second time weather has disrupted El Tri’s tournament run; their round of 32 match against Ecuador on Tuesday was pushed back an hour due to similar conditions.
