As the adoption of artificial intelligence accelerates, it is causing substantial shifts in data center infrastructure. The growing use of high-performance AI servers is generating significant heat loads and soaring energy consumption, making thermal management and energy efficiency among the most critical issues of the AI data center era.

To address these challenges, global innovator LG Electronics is moving beyond the supply of standalone cooling equipment to offer a holistic portfolio of integrated solutions spanning the AI data center ecosystem. Its lineups include advanced air-cooling systems, next-generation liquid and immersion cooling systems, and AI-powered operational software and high-efficiency power infrastructure.

A Comprehensive Cooling Portfolio from Air- to Immersion-based Solutions

LG has expanded its range of sophisticated cooling solutions to meet diverse data center needs. The lineup includes the Computer Room Air Handler (CRAH), which utilizes high-efficiency Electronically Commutated (EC) fans and oval coils to provide temperature and humidity control, which may help minimize electricity usage.

Complementing the CRAH is the Water-Cooled Screw Chiller featuring falling film type. Unlike flooded evaporators, falling film types drip refrigerant from distributors over stacked tubes, providing direct contact with each tube for greater efficiency with less refrigerant. Data centers rely on continuous operation, and the chiller helps to support this through an automatic emergency backup if an issue occurs in one compressor or cycle. Additionally, a new 15” large touchscreen provides improved visibility and supports data center facility maintenance functions like run history, information, scheduling and report functions. The Water-Cooled Screw Chiller is complemented by the Air-Cooled Inverter Scroll Chiller (ISC). Using low global-warming-potential R32 refrigerant, the ISC incorporates a modular architecture and refrigerant-based free cooling technology to help reduce system losses and ensure operational flexibility according to data center size and workload. LG’s new ISC solutions are designed to contribute to efficient large-scale AI data center cooling in North America and around the world.

LG has also developed advanced liquid cooling technologies to help mitigate the extreme heat produced by high-density AI servers. Direct-to-Chip (DTC) cooling solutions include innovative Cold Plate designs and a powerful Coolant Distribution Unit (CDU), configured to enhance heat transfer and support efficient performance. For reliability and system efficiency, the CDU uses a high-efficiency inverter pump, a fully redundant sensor system and Active Load Sharing technology.

Pushing the boundaries of thermal management, LG is pursuing strategic collaborations. The company is partnering with U.S.-based immersion cooling provider, Green Revolution Cooling (GRC), to develop immersion cooling tank systems and is working with South Korea’s SK Enmove, a supplier of premium base oils and lubricants, to develop specialized cooling fluids.

Beyond Hardware: Intelligent Operations and Power Efficiency

LG’s data center solutions strategy extends beyond cooling hardware to encompass the software and power systems that form the backbone of today’s AI-driven facilities. Its Data Center Cooling Management (DCCM) platform integrates cooling infrastructure management and supports predictive maintenance through early anomaly detection, which may help streamline operation and help prevent service interruptions.

In addition, PADO, a portfolio company of the LG North America Innovation Center (LG NOVA) and an LG-affiliated entity, provides an AI-based workload orchestration platform that analyzes IT, cooling and power systems in real time to support more efficient data center operation.

For intelligent energy management, LG’s own AI-based Building Energy Control (BECON) system provides integrated control of data center cooling solutions and can help maintain stable temperature and humidity levels through real-time data analysis. In collaboration with key partners, LG has also developed a Direct Current (DC) Grid solution designed to help reduce the energy loss common in Alternating Current (AC) power conversion – helping to lower initial power loss from approximately 25 percent to around 15 percent under tested condition.*
