New Delhi: The renewable energy ministry has extended the deadline for mandatory BIS certification of solar photovoltaic inverters with capacity above 200 kW to December 31. The earlier deadline was June 30.

In a notification issued on July 3, the ministry extended the self-certification window for utility-scale solar inverters covered under the solar systems, devices and components goods order, 2025 until December 31, or until further orders, whichever is earlier.

The extension has been granted because of limited testing facilities available for certifying high-capacity solar inverters, a notification from the ministry said. Manufacturers can continue supplying these inverters until 31 December 2026 or further orders, based on self-certification.

The extension applies to items such as solar inverters with capacities exceeding 200 kW.

Manufacturers will be allowed to continue supplying these products based on self-certification, provided they hold valid IEC certificates corresponding to the prescribed Indian standards and obtain test reports from accredited laboratories.
