It was supposed to be the dating app where the rich met their equals.

Millionaire Match promises to connect wealthy, successful singles looking for partners who share their ambition, lifestyle and bank balance – a kind of Tinder for the one percent.

For Australian bestselling author Hacia Atherton, 38, it appeared to deliver exactly that.

Her match with millionaire Florida businessman and retired pilot Paul Vitale, 69, quickly blossomed into a glamorous long-distance romance filled with luxury gifts, Caribbean trips and a beachfront condo overlooking the Gulf.

But according to an explosive federal lawsuit, Atherton alleges Vitale turned her into his sex slave, forcing her to wear a dog collar, sleep with other men and bring him to climax twice a day.

Now, she and her lawyers say her story shows that women can become victims of sexual abuse regardless of their wealth, success or independence.

Atherton claims in the lawsuit that her relationship with Vitale spiraled after they struck up an instant connection during their first video call in February 2025.

Atherton alleges Vitale's constant attention won her trust so completely that she opened up to him about a history of sexual abuse.

Vitale, who ran his own consulting business and owned a beachfront condo in Clearwater, Florida, showered her with clothes, shoes and jewelry when they met in person for the first time, the suit claims.

But that same visit, she alleges, Atherton was pushed to wear a collar and take part in a sexual encounter with Vitale and another man, setting the tone for what her lawyers describe as an escalating system of 'swinging' and sexual control.

Despite this, the pair became a couple and Vitale sponsored Atherton's work visa through his company, Allstar Consulting Services, clearing the way for her to relocate to the US and share his $1.1 million condo.

The lawsuit claims that during trips together, including to a luxury Caribbean resort, Vitale arranged sexual encounters with other couples using dating and swinging apps where he allegedly posted photographs of Atherton without her consent.

After her visa was approved in August 2025, Atherton alleged that Vitale's behavior grew far more controlling and that he began arranging sexual encounters with other men more frequently, at one point insisting the men had to be black.

Some of these men allegedly appeared to be receiving money for their participation, with several thanking Atherton for what they called 'reparations,' according to the complaint.

The lawsuit claims Vitale also pushed Atherton to charge other men for sex and floated the idea that she open an OnlyFans account to work as a sex performer.

She was expected to bring the retired FedEx pilot to climax at least twice a day, the suit alleges.

On one occasion she claims in the lawsuit that he grabbed a collar around her neck and told her: 'This means I own you, you submit to me and do what I say.'

Later, the complaint says, he insisted she wear other degrading bondage attire at home as proof of her submission and devotion to him.

Throughout this period, Atherton claims Vitale routinely got her drunk or high using alcohol, marijuana, nitrous oxide and other drugs, often as part of their sexual encounters.

On one occasion while she was intoxicated, the lawsuit alleges, Vitale used two large sex toys on her.

'Despite her pleas [to stop], Defendant continued,' the lawsuit alleges.

'As a result, Ms. Atherton experienced vaginal bleeding and significant physical pain. Defendant refused to take Ms. Atherton to seek medical attention for these injuries.'

The complaint also claims that some of the sexual encounters involved watching child abuse and bestiality content on the dark web.

Vitale secretly filmed several of the encounters, which involved Atherton as well as other women who had not consented to being recorded, and shared the explicit footage with a friend, the lawsuit alleges.

Court papers describe the alleged pattern of abuse in stark terms, stating that 'defendant's course of conduct was not a momentary lapse in judgment but rather a prolonged, calculated campaign of abuse, degradation, and psychological torture deliberately designed to subjugate, humiliate, and destroy plaintiff's mental and emotional well-being.'

After Atherton ended the relationship and moved out in December, she claims Vitale launched a vicious campaign of online harassment against her.

He fired her from his consultancy and dissolved the company almost immediately, triggering the expiration of her visa, which was tied to her job, the lawsuit states.

Vitale then took to social media accusing Atherton of infidelity during their relationship, disparaging her professional reputation, and writing publicly about the 'evil in her heart,' according to the complaint.

After Atherton ended the relationship and moved out in December, she claims Vitale launched a vicious campaign of online harassment against her

Within weeks, Atherton had moved in to Vitale's $1.1 million beachfront apartment in Clearwater, Florida

In one Instagram post from March, cited in the lawsuit, Vitale wrote: 'Dating Hacia Atherton for a year: $100,000. Life after she's gone: PRICELESS!'

It added: 'Moving On After The Lies & Deception of Hacia Atherton Author of the Billion Dollar Blindspot.'

The suit further claims Vitale sent explicit footage of Atherton to her ex-husband as an act of revenge after the breakup.

Atherton, who has since relocated to St Petersburg, Florida, says she has been left with lasting psychological scars, including 'PTSD, depression, disrupted sleep patterns, anxiety attacks, hypervigilance, a persistent sense of psychological instability.'

The lawsuit brings a dozen separate legal counts against Vitale, among them sex trafficking, forced labor, intentional infliction of emotional distress, cyber-harassment, stalking, assault, battery, false imprisonment and defamation.

It was filed in federal court in Florida on June 22, under the Trafficking Victims Protection Act.

None of the allegations have yet been tested or proven in court.

Vitale did not respond to requests for comment, and no attorney is currently listed for him in the case's court filings.

Atherton is seeking a jury trial along with compensatory and punitive damages. Her attorney, Matt Sarelson, said he expects the case to reach trial by the end of 2027.

Sarelson said that even independent, successful women like Atherton can become victims of abuse.

Atherton insisted on not remaining anonymous in order to further raise awareness.

'Sexual abuse does not just happen to women who are from a lower socioeconomic group,' Sarelson told the Daily Mail.

He added that professional women with connections and resources have a unique ability to bring such cases to light.

'You need women like Hacia to actually come forward, because she has the ability to get connected with lawyers who can file these cases,' Sarelson said.

Atherton, a former CEO of her family business, is the author of The Billion Dollar Blind$pot, a bestselling management book, and she co-authored a book about corporate leadership.

Her website describes a life-changing 2017 accident in which a 1,300-pound horse fell on Atherton during a training session, leaving her unable to walk for six months.

It also lists her various awards and photos of her alongside such celebrities, entrepreneurs, and athletes as Kevin Costner, Wayne Gretzky and Liz Hurley.
